Chip Kelly Said He Was Never Offered UF Job

My guess is that he didn't like something to do with control over certain things when he talked with them.

Weren't there quotes released from him a few days back where he said the decision was difficult because he liked the UF admin? So if he never got offered then what exactly was difficult? The job wasn't on the table.

Maybe he wasn't officially offered...either way it's water under the bridge...really the guy didn't want to be in Gainesville otherwise we would have him. I really wanted the guy but if he doesn't want to be a Gator then it's better that he went somewhere else. Mullen certainly is thrilled to be the HBC and that's what you need.

Reactions: passoverGator
That being said, the optics of negotiations sometimes aren’t what they seem. Perhaps Stricklin knew from the get go where he wanted to end up and needed to walk that path to appease the masses in an effort to gain support for his intended result. If so, he went about it brilliantly. We’ll never know.

In any event, we got our guy.

Sounds like the talk but no offer 'smoke & mirrors' for public consumption that I've already suggested....

You can easily tell it was about control over the program, not that he didnt want to be here, he probably had some demands that UF was not willing to meet.

Frost is now irrelevant history.
The cow-Chip is also history.
So are any other no-hires. o_O

Moving right along....

"The reaction in Starkville was harsh."

Darned if I (iG) can understand any MsSt fan whining about UF hiring Mullen as the new Gator head coach.
ALL coaches move, and if they are successful, they move up to better paying jobs. That's all that's happened here. Have the MsSt fans forgotten that they 'stole' UF's NC OC away from us first? o_O

Under the 'Stick in Your Eye' section, with the MsSt AD and HC both now at UF, this ends the MsSt to UF 'Lateral Move' BS.... :p

I understand them not liking it and why that is.
For 8 years prior to Mullen, MsSt was 32-65 (.330), 2-1 Bowls, 0-1 SEC-C
For 9 years with HC Mullen, MsSt was 69-46 (.600) 5-2 Bowls & 3 9-win seasons.
(He will have 4 of MsSt's 5, NINE WIN seasons, if they win their bowl game this year)

He did a great job at MsSt,,, for MsSt anyway, but he's peaked out there with what you can get done in Stark-Vegas. It was just time to move on to bigger and better things (UF & 6-Mil/Yr)....
==========

"They spoke (officially) about the job for the first time on Friday, and by Sunday morning a deal was in place." --- I'll buy that maybe, just as long as I can put the (officially) in that sentence. -- (iG)
BTW, it wouldn't take 36 Million to get me to move from Stark-Vegas, MS -- to Gainesville, FL. :D

iG -- What does it take to be a successful HC at UF now days? You'll need to win 9-10-11 games every year, and then win a championship every now and then, to go with the wins total. In the years that you don't win a championship, you'll need to win a good bowl game more often than not. - FYI - Over the last 4 seasons only 6 schools have held the #1 Ranking, and MSU is one of them. The Gators haven't been Ranked #1 since the Tebow/Mullen era ended.

Trivia from OC Mullen/UF 2005-08:
UF's 3rd Heisman QB (2007) was the 1st true Soph Heisman

UF 3-1 Bowls
UF 3-1 UGly
UF 4-0 Tenn
UF 4-0 FSUcks
UF 2-0 SEC-C
UF 2-0 BCS-NC

But what really sets UF apart from any and all of the other SEC schools is this reality:
"I want you to know there's an unbelievable standard of excellence [at] Florida, both as a premiere academic institution and on the athletic field. It's not just football, but in all sports. I accept that." -- Mullen

Dan Mullen understands what's important to Gator Nation, not just to the Gator football fans. Dan is not likely to skip out when the other sports coaches have their group meeting. The 'right fit' indeed.... :)
