Can we get some love for Jones?

He's pretty good. I don't fear him being out there. Well, I don't fear him any more than I fear all our QB's. I am hoping this kid we have coming in will be a guy I won't have to fear at all, like Tebow or most of Steve's QB's.

Should have played more. At that time in the game Auburn had taken all the momentum and he calmly came in and drove us right down the field. The one incompletion was a drop on a beautiful deep ball to Swain. If Mullen doesn’t call a shitty run play on 3rd and 8 we probably score a TD there.

I like him a LOT! I like breaking him in slowly as I see him as the starter next year, whether the other guys are here or not.

A good kid, a good Gator, and he has a chance to develop into a very good QB.
He has time, but if either or both Trask - Franks are back in 2020, he's unlikely to be the starter. JMOHO of course.

I thought so too...he's right there. Throws a great ball...can really can run it too, smart runner and doesn't take to much damage but will run it hard too. I think Trask is a better passer right now and knows the offense better now but Jones looks like those QB's from Clemson over the last few years. He barley over threw a couple of passes but he's starting to get really polished. I think he's going to be the guy moving forward.

Either way, kid came in and played well...big time game and I agree that he deserves a lot of credit...he handled the stage well. He has a cool head. Was most impressed with that myself.

You are probably right, but I think his upside is way beyond either. If Trask stays healthy and continues to play well I look for Franks to transfer.

I think I heard tonight that Franks said that he intends to come back, but it's a long way off so we'll all just have to wait and see,,,, as usual...

I agree, I would have given him at least another series and definitely would have had him in the game at the end when we were running the ball with Trask who was banged up

Does Jones not know the playbook as well as Trask or something? I would trust him with the ball a lot more. After the initial step count he moves out of the pocket to run or improvise which leads to less turnovers. He’s a much better fit for Mullen’s offense. I haven’t seen anything in the last few games I’ve watched of y’all that tells me Trask is more accurate than Jones either. That leads me to believe Trask has a better handle on the playbook.

Most likely. Mullen’s history shows he just doesn’t like playing young QB’s and he’s talked about it openly too. Like all last season he talked about how Franks played to early which led to his bad habits.

I wondered the same thing.

As sad as it is and as bad as I felt for Kyle Trask when he got hurt, I actually felt we had a better shot at winning the game there in the 2nd quarter with Emory Jones taking over.

At the time, we were ahead but I was wondering how long it'd be before busty gusty started just pounding the ball up the middle on us to wear us down. It felt like it was inevitable that our defense would wear down and give up a big play late in the 3rd or 4th and then Auburn could roll.

So with zero running game going on there in the 2nd quarter, we had no ability to run down the clock while we were ahead. Coupled with the penalties, the ref's confusion, and the turnovers, that had to be the longest 1st quarter I've ever witnessed. I just felt it was to our detriment to have this game keep going on and on and on and inevitably we wouldn't be stopping Auburn on 3rd down, so we NEEDED to run the ball and burn off clock. Enter Emory Jones and we start getting a decent balance of the run/pass game and his first drive chewed up over 4 minutes of game clock alone.

Maybe he's not as polished or doesn't know as much of the play book as the other two, but the real threat of a running QB who can kill you on any play would cause the defenses to start playing more honest up front for us.

This is my constant worry now, that our lack of a running game isn't going to prevent us from scoring against good teams, its that we cannot arbitrarily control the tempo/pace of the game nor burn out the clock when we want to and stress the other team.

Jones is probably going to be a good QB, and he did a fine job in relief on Saturday, but he is very green and his game is clearly very limited as opposed to Trask given his inexperience.

Not sure how any objective Florida fan could fail to see that Trask gives us the better chance to win games at the moment...

It really isn’t even a question.

1. Jones knows the offense by now, and he gets practice reps with the 1st team.

2. Trask 6-5 239 rsJr (best passer)
3.. Jones 6-2 199 rsFr (best runner)
4. UF has better runners, Perine-Davis-Pierce-Clement-Wright, etc
5. Toney is also a better runner,,, and he was a QB-dt too.
6. For now and for this year's offense, Trask is the better choice in several categories.
7. IF Trask went down, Jones could step in and get it done,,, at some level?

Down the road in 1-2 years, Jones may be another Toney, or he might be the QB.
All of that remains to been seen, and as always, may the best man win the job.... o_O

insta,

I'm sure that you have already heard this, but for anyone who hasn't -

"...Ahead of today’s game—a big 24-13 win over No. 7 Auburn in Gainesville—Franks updated CBS on his situation. With one year of eligibility left, he is not sure if he’ll return to UF, or transfer elsewhere to finish his college career.

Feleipe Franks told @JamieErdahl that he's "not sure" whether he's going to come back to Florida with one year of eligibility remaining. Will decide once recovered 100 percent. Not a surprise. #Gators."

Trask seems to run the offense well. Mainly needs better pocket presence and needs to throw the ball quicker. Jones is a better fit for Mullen's offense, he's the future and throws a great ball too. Jones isn't as experienced but more game reps and he'll do well.
