I'm not a Gator's fan. I'm a Sooner fan. But this disgusts me. Even U. Texas will display a change in their routine that never meant to be racist. And this will trickle down into just about every school. Some where people are looking into every aspect of life to try and find any hint of racism. Once found it will be wiped clean. You can't just "white"wash it away like that. We learn by history. This whole Gator Bait thing is so stupid. I'm appalled.
I think much of this is motivated by fear, that if I as the head of an entity do not wipe away every hint of racism whether real or imagined, I and my group will pay a price either shaming or economic or violence of person or property. Much of this is intimidation to it's extreme.
Man, even in business you discuss major decisions and don't just go off on a whim and make changes. It's stupid. You're right. People are fearful, and it's for personal protection and not for real, intentional change.
And the most frightening aspect is how so many are just "turtleing up" and not standing firm. The overreach can only go as far as the majority allows it.
So much of this is pure nonsense - and BOTH sides know it. One says "gee, just give them this and it will make them shut up"....and the other side is thus emboldened, the center moves left yet again, and so it will continue. As I said, if you think they're going to be satisfied with eliminating a cheer or taking down a statue, please see me about the ten acres of swampland I'd like to sell you.

Even as an FSU grad, I sincerely hate this spineless action by the UF administration. FSU nearly lost their Seminole tradition under similar social pressure and only by the full support of The Seminole Tribe of Florida did the NCAA relent.

Back in my time, playing baseball ,, I was on the same team with FSU guys , in summer ball and we were always hanging out as
Florida boys ,,,, great team mates and loved playing against them win or lose

As you can see I am an alumnus and fan of another SEC school and the chant has been hurled at us thousands of times. Not once have our fans been offended. Never even thought of being offended. It is college football or basketball. It is a cheer. This is what students and fans do. We cheer our teams.
I and the vast majority of UK fans admire the University of Florida Gators football team. Oh we may not admit it to you but we would love to have your record. I love your passion, I love your full stadium,, I love how you treat us when we are visitors to your town. I have never been mistreated as a visitor. You are an elite among college football programs and "gator bait" has never once hurt anyone. It is a non factor.
So the next time we visit, hit us with it. "Gator Bait" It is college football. Continue to be proud of your great football program. Your fans built it and you have no reason to apologize for something that never existed. Best of luck to the Gators.
