Part of the reason that Oz lost, was his terrible answer on abortion. He got pilloried when he said that he wanted it between the woman, family, the physician and then he said....local elected leaders. he got laughed (rightly) out of the room. Especially on matters such as this, they know even less than federal leaders. He lost female votes, independents, the election and then a winnable seat for Republicans. Blake M. got blown up similarly as did Herschel.

Pre-election polling consistently showed that abortion was one of the least important issues to voters. It was usually outside the Top 10.
After SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade and Casey vs PP, this was a settled matter for most. America has moved on.

The challenge is that Suburban, college aged women place a far (rationally or not) higher value on things like Abortion, so they could be both communists/socialists and women would say, "at least they are letting me do what I want with my body" - even, in the case of my wife, she is 50 now and may be beyond her child bearing years in 24-36 months. (insert Don Lemon "shred" here, lol)
