How can NCAA College football fix kids opting out of games? OSU has 5 major players out.

Frankly, expanding the playoffs to 12 teams (so that there are no more important bowl games) and otherwise just accepting it.

Edit: Bowl games used to not count on the record, we could go back to that. Would make optouts irrelevant.

Another side effect of the playoff. These are all irrelevant now.

And you could let kids go to the NfL whenever they are ready or want to.

But I cannot imagine the Rose Bowl is happy they are getting half of an OSU team v Utah.

Lol that's not how it works.
That's what I heard some commentators saying today. I think in the future the NCAA will come up with something to make it worth wild for Seniors to play by either rewarding them or penalizing them.

Punishing them will never work because some schools would just say “we won’t do that” to entice recruits

I wonder if at some point someone will tie it to NIL money. You get $X amount as long as you finish the season

That's weird because I just had a conversation about this today. That's exactly the conclusion we came to.

In a few years the NIL will be rather useless. Right now they're exploring the market and seeing what works but within 5 years they'll have it fine tuned

College football has been handed free agency and NIL in a three month span. It will work itself out.

And no matter what rules you put in place, the Saban’s and Dabo’s will stay ahead of the game and adjust to have an edge

Dabo is not on the same level as Saban. He's got a lot of flaws as a coach.

I think he falls more in line with a Bob Stoops.

He'll have plenty of success but there have been and will be ups and downs. Luckily he plays in a terribly weak conference.

I do not believe Dabo is anywhere near Saban as a coach

I do believe Dabo is good at finding ways around rules like Saban

Will be interesting to see if A&M can keep recruiting on par with Bama and Georgia in the years ahead since they are going all in now. I don't think Jimbo is that good of a coach though.

As far as bowl opt outs don't see much they can do except the 12 team playoff making 8 more teams field all their NFL guys.

How many kids do you think will start opting out of games that aren't bowl games? I could see some of these kids in their third year out of high school saying screw it half way through their season knowing they are going to the NFL and with a healthy bank account due to NIL. I hope college football doesn't start looking like college basketball.

Imagine if the courts would have ruled some years back the NFL couldn't have that 3 year rule. A lot of lawyers were thinking they were going to strike it down before they ruled. I couldn't imagine how much that would have changed the college game.

Actually used this in a discussion with my cousin the other day.

If you go to a largely expanded playoff, how long until kids sit out the last week to prep for the playoff?

Trying to remember how that all went down.

I think the key was that you have to be a member of the players association to play NFL football and the PA set up the three year rule for union membership. So technically it's not the NFL's rule, it's a union rule, and that bypasses the collusion argument.

That kid at Ohio State (RB) when they won the title some years back sued if I remember right and then he didn't even end up making the NFL after that.

Edit: What wiki says about it.

"In his attempt to enter the 2004 NFL Draft, Clarett challenged the NFL's rule that a player must wait three years after graduating from high school to declare for the draft. Federal Judge Shira Scheindlin initially ruled based on anti-trust grounds that the NFL could not bar Clarett from participating in the 2004 draft.[12] This decision was later overturned by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in an opinion by Judge Sonia Sotomayor, and Clarett's petition for certiorari was refused by the Supreme Court.[13] Clarett and USC wide receiver Mike Williams, who were both hoping to enter the draft early, were then barred from the draft by the NFL. "

I had forgot someone actually drafted him late in the 3rd round after that and the idiot didnt take a nice signing bonus and instead took a contract without that that was based on big performance numbers money and then he was cut from the roster.

Maurice Clarett, sued and won. Mike Williams (USC) joined him. They declared, higher court overturned it and NCAA wouldn’t allow them back

just another example the NCAA couldn’t care less about student athletes. So glad the NCAA lost the NIL suit. corrupt punks

Yep that was back when the NCAA would still flex its muscles some. I am glad the NFL won that challenge however and don't care if it gives them a free minor league system with no draft attached by having that 3 year rule.
