The COACHES. Some of the best play calling I have seen in a first game of the season in a long time. Even the last year of Meyer with Addazio. Defense could not key on one or 2 receivers and as everyone saw, the use of the tight ends was outstanding. The route trees were excellent and the first TD to Powell showed how one receiver can clear the field for another getting Powell wide open. People are complaining about the OL but with the inexperience we have they did a good job for a first game. They will get better and the running game will improve. The fact there was no false starts or holding calls is impressive for a young line. We have a good stable of backs.
Tennessee gave up a ton of passing yards and I feel very good about that game in the Swamp. We should have had no problem with UK last year and with these coaches, I am confident of that win. Contnue to build on the play of the QBs and come out of UT 4-0 and we can make the East interesting.
I was not impressed with USCe and felt we had much better playcalling than the HBC. McElwain looks analytical on the sidelines, almost like a surgeon. I like his style and the precision and discipline he instills in this team. When was the last time if ever, a Florida team had 1 penalty and still played as aggressively as we did.
After one game, I feel very good about Coach Mac and the staff he has put together, including the Weight Staff and Support Staff. Off season workouts turned a lot of these kids into men, and Mac and coaches are turning them into excellent football players.
