Excerpt from Bianchi's column of 7-23-15:
I got an email earlier this week from the mother of an Orlando high school senior who is in the process of selecting her college. The mother's comments should be troubling to Thrasher and everybody else who truly cares about FSU's reputation as an institution of higher learning.
"We recently toured FSU and the violence against women by the players was in the forefront of my mind, therefore putting FSU at the bottom of my list," the mother wrote. "I do not want to send my daughter to a school where her safety is at risk due to other students with a violent past. Colleges are first and foremost higher education institutions. … I don't deny a strong sports program brings school spirit, notoriety and funding but it should not be done at the risk of the kids who are attending to further their education and prepare for a successful future. After all, that is the purpose of college."
It's up to Thrasher and coach Jimbo Fisher to ease the minds of such parents and stop this nonsense before FSU's reputation is permanently scarred.
Memo to Jimbo: Please don't allow your legacy to disintegrate into that of former Florida coach Urban Meyer — a coach who won national championships on the field but lost a ton of respect by the way his players behaved off it.
A championship football team is supposed to enhance the reputation of the university; not detract from it.
