But I thought we were supposed to be finishing 5th in the East ............ suck it Vegas!!!!
Silly Gators fan!
Vegas "prognosticators" don't believe that their lines
necessarily predict (future)
sporting outcomes. The goal of
setting their lines is
primarily to
entice people to place bets, and in general, to more-or-less
balance the money bet on each side of the betting proposition, so they reliably get profits from the
vigorish. So it seems reasonable to conclude that there was an approximate consensus in Vegas that
Gator fans were so, um,
saddened by the
Mousefield coaching regime, that the betting line(s) needed to set the SEC-finish bar
really low, to draw a profitable amount of money in bets on the Gators' side. And to entice
Gator-haters to place bets encouraged by their blackened hearts, which were plausibly hoping that the Gators might perform even
worse, suffering defeats from the usual suspects for the SEC-East cellar.
Only
secondarily do those "prognosticators" aspire to accurately
predict (future)
sporting outcomes. Altho' if they
repeatedly fail at the latter, they'll face failure of their businesses, and quite possibly, um, threats to their personal safety.
