Back to Back Losing Seasons for FSU

I will give FSU several things over Miami here. 1, FSU managed to SCORE POINTS in it's bowl game. I only saw the 2nd half and FSU was in total control in the game from that point. It was the turnovers that lost them the damn game. Is Blackmon color blind or something and can't tell the difference between the 2 different teams? 2. FSU recognized when it was circling the drain and did something about it. I wouldn't have as I hold fast to the give them 3 years mantra, but they fired WillieT because it was evident they weren't improving. Teams like Tennessee and Miami refuse to admit that after a year or two, they have yet again hired a moron for head coach. Many miami fans are ready to dump Diaz today, but their administration is 100% behind him and the direction he's driving that program. FSU wasn't content with 6-6 in a league that is as weak as the ACC is. Brighter days will be ahead for them.

They can’t possibly get any worse. How do you have back to back losing seasons in the ACC? Not even Muschamp or McElwain were able to pull that off in the SEC

I agree that Manny Diaz isn’t any good but he’s only been there 1 year so they have to give him more time than that. Richt put them in a bad spot with the bad timing of his retirement and Miami just flat out panicked and hired Diaz because they really didn’t know what else to do. He’s also a 305 boy so they are going to try and support him as much as possible even though he’s not any good. It’s deja vu all over again as it’s a Randy Shannon type hire to a T. Miami guy that is a DC. They are repeating the same mistake twice. Miami also doesn’t have the money to compete with the big boys anymore.

FSU fans are hiding like cock roaches....not all but a most of them. Not just on this site but on social media too. I caught just part of the game yesterday and they are a sh*t show...just all around bad. If their new coach can get it done he'll at least be competing in a very weak conference. Not every team is horrible but most are average and worse.

Norvell is a pretty good coach I think but still lots of questions with him. He really only had 2 good years out of 4 at Memphis and that was in the AAC. He’s also 0-3 in bowl games which is a bit of a concern I would think. He really has never worked at a major P5 school where expectations are high. He’s a good offensive coach and will have the luxury of what is right now a weak conference. High risk high reward. FSU didn’t get Franklin, Rhule, Mark Stoops or PJ Fleck which all would have created much more buzz initially.

Lots of G5 coaches have flopped in P5. There is a possibility Norvell succeeds but it is by no means a guarantee. If you hear Hole fans speak to them him succeeding is a guaranteed certainty and the only variable is how many national championships can he win them in the same season. Taking any kind of step back is not fathomable for them, and they fail to realize they have zero QBs, RB, OL, or discipline of any kind. Not even foreseeing 7-8 wins next year, straight up 11-12.
Like I said on another post, Norvell could improve that team a lot next year and still end up with a 6-7 record. Their roster holes (no pun intended) at key positions are THAT big.

So did anyone piss in the Holes’ frosted flakes this morning?

Ouch. How can you have back to back losing seasons in what is basically a 1 team conference?? That has to be really tough to take.

UF is so far ahead of both Miami and FSU.

Same way you guys went 4 and 8 twice while losing to Georgia Southern... Shitbag coaching and horrid quarterback play.

Biggest issue is QB. We will be ok at RB and our O line is avg. Terry is coming back. We have some pieces but no where near a full team. Norvell has already got an OT and RB from the portal. If we find a QB, we will be better, if not, back to 6 or 7 wins

4-7 the second time. Facts are facts.

All joking aside coaching was the biggest factor. Even in 2013 when we had all those injuries (even the OL on the scooter), a competent coach like SOS, Urban, or Mullen would have beaten Georgia Southern. They would have made sure QB2 and QB3 were better options than Tyler Murphy and Skyler Morningwheg.

FWIW while it wasn’t good for sure we didn’t have back to back losing seasons.

I dont think that rly matters. We have had 3 bad seasons in a row. All had Blackman and Taggart. Those 2 need to go and we will improve. We could have easily won 9 games this yr with an avg qb. As you pointed out, the schedule wasnt that tough. We lost some very winnable games that we just gave away. To be fair we could have easily lost the ULM game if they didnt shank an extra point. Its just bad coachi g and QB play. I think we fixed one of those. The other i think will take one more yr.

FSU939913,

I see Jashaun Corbin RB 6'0" 214 listed in portal as transfering to FSU. If he recovers from his injury, looks like a good pick up -

"...Appeared in 14 games at Texas A&M, totaling 1,025 all-purpose yards after gaining 483 rushing yards, 441 kickoff return yards and 101 receiving yards…started first two games of 2019 before season-ending injury…rushed for career-high 103 yards and one touchdown while adding four receptions for 12 yards and one touchdown in season opener vs. Texas State…named to SEC All-Freshman Team in 2018 after leading Aggies with 422 kickoff return yards and adding 346 yards on 61 carries and 85 yards on 10 receptions…returned opening kickoff vs. Arkansas 100 yards for touchdown…consensus four-star recruit after four-year varsity career at Rockledge…totaled 2,252 all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns his senior season, helping lead Raiders to regional semifinal round of 5A state playoffs…had 1,641 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior…rushed for nearly 2,000 yards his sophomore year with 22 touchdowns and added four more receiving scores…gained 495 all-purpose yards and scored five touchdowns his freshman year.

FOLLOW-UP FROM WARCHANT STAFF:

Even though he redshirted in 2019 at Texas A&M, Corbin would need a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible to play in 2020. If he does not obtain a waiver, he would have to sit out one season per NCAA transfer rules.

As of this morning, no OL transfers to FSU listed in portal; do you have a name for us ?

Yes Corbin from a and m is coming and the OT from Fiu is transferring here (already announced). Not sure his name tho. We also contacted about 3 or 4 others. I think we are getting at least 1 more, maybe 2

FSU939913,

If the OL are immediately eligible, could help you a lot; even if they aren't, no worse than recruiting a HS OL who won't be much help his first year either.

Post the names when you can, I like to keep my eyes on you Noles ! LOL

Corbin could be a decent pickup. The olineman from FIU isn’t any good.

Awful post. We don’t know brighter days are ahead. Let’s enjoy them being where they belong for awhile

To be fair, the AAC has been a better quality conference than the ACC for the past couple of years. The ACC is Clemson, then a vast gulf of coaching and talent, then the rest.

Let this sink in- Clemson's signature conference wins this season was UVA then Wake in that dumpster fire of a conference. When your first and second runner up teams are UVA and Wake...Yeesh.

Paco,

Don't know enough to have an opinion of him. But here is some info -

Corbin will be joined by FIU OT Devontay Taylor -

Taylor started 25 of the last 26 games for FIU. The 6’4 lineman played 33 games total for the Panthers and will look to step in immediately at right tackle for Florida State. He is a January enrollee who will be immediately eligible to play for FSU.

Florida State will continue to look for other offensive linemen transfers on the market. The offensive line has been a position that has consistently ranked in the bottom third of most NCAA rankings for the past two years. Devontay Taylor looks to be the first piece for Coach Norvell and his staff’s solution to the need at tackle.

Na, Willie got us pretty used to it in a very short period of time. Good news is, Norvell is getting us ready for significant improvements:

- QBs. Just having them will be AWESOME!
- TOs. Showing the world how to take a timeout then NOT follow up immediately with a delay of game or false start
- Math. Just wait until we have 11 players on the field...NOT 10 or 12, but truly 11.
- ST. Ever see a KO or Punt return? We haven't in years, BUT I think we might actually see one.

Those are just the highlights of what's to come for the Roar'n 20s and FSU football!
