Albuquerque to start sending unarmed social workers instead of police for some 911 calls

How long will it take for a social worker to get killed? I hope it's not domestic violence cases as cops say those are some of the most dangerous situations that can arise.

It won't end well. There are some calls where a social worker is helpful. When that situation arises, we call one.

When a large man has a warrant for his arrest, I'm thinking that a social worker probably won't want to take that call.

We send police for everything these days, even things that aren't their job.

If I'm a suicidal person, I'd rather talk to a social worker than cops pointing guns at me.

Fair point but oftentimes sending in a social worker is just going to get them killed too.

We have cops that are well trained on de-escalation tactics, negotiating and specifically trained on dealing with people going through a crisis, like thoughts of suicide for example. I'm one of those guys for de-escalation and suicide. Not yet a certified negotiator however.

I imagine DV is something that would still require at least one officer.
Agree...I was clocked in the head with a skillet after I removed a boyfriend from beating his girlfriend's face in. The woman with a bloodied face and eyes almost beaten shut was fighting for her man. She ended up with the more serious BOLEO charge and her boyfriend walked after first appearance court with a fine.
