And our next best is Nuss, who comes in around 167th. Most of our rivals, if not all of them, have multiple coaches ranked ahead of our best one, and it seems like their entire staff comes in before our number #2 guy.

That should settle any debate about the direction of the recruiting, and it should raise doubts about how the next class will play out. Just like you can't win with terrible players, you can't land the blue chips studs with mediocre recruiters, and our staff is stocked full of them. The only hope we have is that our coaches make up in coaching skill what they lack in recruiting ability since they won't be able to land the talent that our rivals will. And does anyone really think our coaches are really that much better than our rivals? C'mon.

So perhaps the reason we're not landing the blue chip guys in our state isn't because of the facilities, or Muschamp's legacy of crappy offense, or some other mystery, but simply because our recruiters flat out suck at their job. Mystery solved.

that poll is a "what have you done for me lately" poll. Florida has some very good recruiters. For some reason, they have not been nearly as productive in Gainesville as they were at other stops.

And, I agree...it has little to do with facilities...or location...or competition or any of the other excuses. Florida should be top 10 in recruiting every year.

Recent History: How exact is the science of DT recruit ranking? In UF's 2013 class:

DT Caleb Brantley rsJr **** -- Very solid student/athlete, he is replacing Jon Bullard at DT.

DT Darious Cummings Sr **** - He was dropped from the Bowl team (???) ending his Sr season. He was not drafted. F/A to Panthers, then they cut him.

DT Jaynard Bostwick rsJr **** - team rules suspension, eventually transferred to Miami. He had what were called 'personal issues,' so upon arrival, Mc released him to transfer. He had never done much at UF anyway.

DT Jarran Reed Sr *** -- I think it was his HS grades kept him from joining UF's 2013 class after signing his LOI. Hargrave Military Academy, then E.Ms CC, then he switched to Alabama NC, and finally 2/49 Seahawks Draft Pick. (so he's just another crappy 3 star DT I guess)

Depending on how Brantley finishes, 3 star Reed might be the best of those four Gator 2013 recruiting class DT's. -- So much for quality of the recruit rankings....
Most anyone can pick out or identify a 5 star, but it takes some real evaluation abilities to pick out the correct 2-3 stars that have very good up-sides, and then coach them up to a championship caliber. o_O
===============

So just maybe Mc-staff will be okay with 2 DT's that are only 3 star rated (according to the rating service nose-pickers) in the 2017 class....
Jordon Scott 6-1 345 --- Javier Edwards 6-3 350

The terrible defensive recruits in the 2016 Gator Class include:
(the worst recruiting class in UF history according to some)

#2 DE Antonneous Clayton 6-3 235 ***** - UA-AA

Named the Class 2A Florida Dairy Farmers Track and Field Athlete of the Year for 2015. Won the 2A Track State Championships in the 100 and 200 meters.
Also competed in the long jump and triple jump and played B-Ball in high school.

DE/TE Jordan Smith 6-5 238 *** - EE - 4A All State
Senior: 104 (86 solo), 3 sacks, 10 QBH, 6FF, 1FR; also 11 Rec for 181 yds, 3 TD's.
Offers: UF -- Ala, UGA, LSU, UK, Ms, MsSt, Mizz, SCa, Tenn.
Also - Cal, Clem, FSU, Mia, ND, tOSU, GaTech, UL, NCSt, PSU, Va, WVa.
Does anyone really believe that this guy is just a 3 star??? o_O

DE/DT Jachai Polite 6-2 259 *** - Junior: 81 Tkl's (43 solo), 13 sacks, 2 FF's, 7 passes deflected. He got injured out during his Sr season.
Offers: UF -- AU, Tenn, MsSt Mizz SCa.
Also - Colo, GaTech, UL, Mia, NC, NCSt, OreSt, USF, UCF, VaTech, WVa, Wis.
Another obvious 3 star...

LB Jeremiah Moon 6-4 210 *** - Funny how Saban tried-failed to flip that lowly 3 star away from UF. :D
Alabama Class 7A First Team All-State.

K Eddy Pineiro 6-0 183 *** - However, Mc-staff did flip the #1 kicker away from Bama/Saban.
Spring Game - Missed 52 - 54 - Made 46 - 52 - 56 (56 was a UF Spring Game Record FG). --- A 5 STAR KICKER if ever there was one!

ILB/RB David Reese 6-0 240 *** - Mc-staff flipped him from Mich/Hardblow - EE
Senior: 138 tackles (85 solo), 5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 6 fumble recoveries, 2 blocked FG's; 75 carries for 541 yds, 7.2 ypc and 6 TD's, 7 receptions for 77 yds, 11 ypr and a TD.
Yep, just another lowly 3 star...

CB/FS/Nic Joseph Putu 6-2 195 ** - Mc flipped him from Ark. He had 10 Ints in 2015 as a JuCo AA.
He also earned HS All State rankings in Basketball and Track. (a ** my azz, just wait, flying way under the radar at N.DakotaSt JuCo)

Ath/CB/RB McArthur Burnett 5-9 172 *** (likely a CB at UF) - 1st Team All State
Offers: UF -- AU --- FSU, Mia, UL, Wva, Wis. etc.

CB/WR C.J.McWilliams 5-11 163 *** Senior: 73 Tkls, 6 Ints, 1 returned for a TD.
Offers: UF -- Mia, USF, UCF, FL-Atl, Neb, UL, NC, etc.

FS/Nic Jeawon Taylor 6-0 191 *** - 6A H-M All State
Jr/Sr: 151 Tkls (112 solo), 2 sacks, 7 Ints, 12 passes deflected, 1 FF.
Offers: UF -- AU, UGA, UK, Ms, MsSt, Mizz.
Also - UL, Mary, Memp, NC, S.Ala, ArkSt

But anyway, they don't all have to be 4-5 star recruits and turn into NFL All Pro's to still be great players for the Gators. (and IMO, FoS on worst recruits ever) o_O
==========

PS

RB/DB Lamical Perine 5-11 218 *** - Eventually given a 4th star when he was voted 7A BoY and when Saban also failed to flip him away from UF to UA. :p
Perine has 4.41/40 speed, a monster stiff-arm, great hands & YAC. After the end of his Sr season, he was voted the Alabama HS 2015 7A Back of the Year.
Some ragged on Mc for going after a 3 star RB, right up until Saban woke up and attempted but failed to flip him away from Mc/UF. They didn't watch his Hudi. o_O
In ole iG's ignorant opinion, this kid might just turn out to be the 'jewel' of the class.

So.....are stars important or not? You are very eager to use them to amplify your argument when they are high, but dismiss them as useless when they are low. Which one is it kid?

Well hot damn. To have an average ranking up in the 100's but just signed a top 15 class I'd have to say we have an overachieving group of recruiters .

I will say, yes I want a top 8 class. Yes I want us to always rank above Miami when it comes to signing Florida. I'd be happy being neck and neck with FSU for the Fla kids.

However looking at past classes, even those that were ranked high...many didn't even make it to year one either due to grades, trouble, injury, or just not that good.

So far we have had one not qualify (D'Anfernee) and only one has had issues with the law (Callaway) but that seems to be over now. Hopefully all the players we have signed stick around and don't get kicked off the team for academics/criminal troubles.

Who are these people who are deciding who is the 167th best recruiter?

They're the same twits that gave Trask 2 stars and Perine 3 stars....
============

What I'd like to see is their individual and team recruit ranking revisited after 4 years.
Then everyone could rate their ability to do the jobs that they're being paid to do.
(not likely that's ever gonna happen)

We just got a LB who is going to miss his senior season it looks like with an injury. I hope we know what we are doing and he really has that much potential.
