Man - This board is full of a bunch of whiners. Bitch, moan and complain and expect everything to happen instantly without hard work and time. That's not the way things work in the real world. We have been a broken program for over a decade. We've had a year or two that were solid, surrounded by years of mediocrity and awfulness. We've had ten years of mediocre recruiting. This isn't a one season fix. Have you guys ever had to work hard for something that didn't come easy? Have you ever had to develop intestinal fortitude? Our last two coaches were such oddballs that our locker rooms folded in on both of them. They were preceded by a psychopath who was an awful head coach. It's a complete rebuild, a gut renovation, not a remodeling. Billy is the guy. He will recruit, he will put a system in place, and he will build this thing back up. Will he win championships? I don't know and neither do any of you. But for where we are right now, he is doing all that he can and it's been a win for UF in every way except for the results on the field so far. We've got five games left. Suck it up and support the program and get on board.
"but Kelly just got to LSU" - Yes, but he playing with top 5 recruiting classes all over the field. They were the most talented team on paper that we've faced yet.
"but our players keep missing tackles" - Yes, because they aren't that good. There were so many times that guys were in a one on one position to make a play and couldn't.
"but our defense sucks" - It does, but we've allowed 42, 37, 49, 45 over the last four games with LSU and they've won 10 of the last 13. They are a better program than us.
On the live game thread, people were literally quitting and "turning off the game" after LSU went up a few scores. What a bunch of snowflakes. I guess they don't watch much football. I guess the fan base is a bunch of quitters, but our players and staff aren't. They continued to fight. They continued to believe. As bad as our D played last night, if Dexter doesn't get that penalty, we have the ball with momentum, plenty of time and a chance to WIN the game.
Alabama gave up 52 to UT, does their D suck? Does their head coach suck? Does their D coordinator deserve to be fired? Probably half of the top 25 games ended up with both teams in the 40s. It's hard to play defense in the modern game.
Thoughts:
- OL played pretty well despite missing our best player. We were facing a lot of 6 and 7 man fronts on running downs and still were able to create space.
- RBs strength of the team. Loaded and will be even better next season.
- TEs non-existant
- WRs tough for me to evaluate live but they played okay I suppose. Still need a major upgrade here. That's why we are singing a large class.
- AR an enigma wrapped in a riddle. Will he ever turn the corner? He has accuracy issues, ball placement issues, and confidence issues. Still you ride him this season and see if he can progress enough that he's our guy next year or we know we have to move on (assuming we have someone better on the roster). 2024 class needs a superstar.
- Defense is so awful. So many missed tackles. So many easy third downs. Not sure what the answer is here. Clearly our players aren't good enough. So many opportunities to make a play and they don't. The scheme isn't great, but I'm not sure that matters at this point. We are trying to cover up weaknesses but we really can't. We'll have to take a hard look in the mirror in the off season to see of Toney can be the guy. Not sure you give up on him after one season with someone else players. But we are the worst team in football on third downs. At some point the D Coach is part of the problem.
- DL - the fact that Des starts should tell you how thin (no pun intended) we are here. We don't have the talent to compete at a high level.. The only guy that really flashes is Cox but he misses as many plays as he makes so he cancels himself out. I hope Dexter comes back. There is a reason we are trying to sign seven guys and it's not because everyone is graduating.
- LB - Miller's got tons of heart and football smarts. But he's limited in size and athleticism. Who ever else is playing is a liability this season. Get the young guys reps.
- DBs - We don't play zone very well and we get beat in man. There is a reason we are looking to bring in seven guys.
