Welcome Michael !

Steele is the only one I think that might get legit playing time out of the true freshman there this season that isn't mostly mop up duty. I also think Elam (not listed) will turn out to be a better DB than Steele by the time they leave UF.

We will see, excited about this class...and the direction.

A 263# LB? Dang.

A 263# LB? Dang.

As a comparison from Rivals 2018 Roster -

Jachai Polite 6'2" 242 lbs
Cece Jefferson 6'1" 252 lbs
Jonathan Greenard 6-4 263 lbs

Greenard both taller & heavier; no indication of relative speed. If Greenard not quick enough, he may play more of a conventional DE & someone else, with better speed may play Buck.

Spring practice will hopefully answer some of these questions.

Just noticed

Kingsley Eguakun Before 6'3" 280 (rivals article 12/2/2018)
After 6'4" 294

Looking at tape Greenard can get after the QB pretty good.

Looking at tape Greenard can get after the QB pretty good.
Prior to his injury he was the best player on the Louisville team.

He had 15.5 tackles for loss in 2017, including a team-high seven sacks, and was named a team captain last season.

A year of strength and conditioning and I bet he’ll be in the 340-350 range which these days most teams have a couple.

Gator WR's for 2019, listed by Ht/Wt.

6-6 246 -- WR/TE
6-5 210
6-3 195 -- Fr
6-3 190 -- Fr WR/FS
6-2 206
6-2 197
6-2 190 -- Fr
=====
6-1 196
6-0 202
6-0 199 -- WR/PR
6-0 198 -- rsFr WR/KR
6-0 194
5-11 190 -- WR/RB/KR (R-11.4 ypc - Rec 10.4 ypr - Harvin)
5-11 178 -- Fr

Just a little FYI -- For anyone that believes that WR Freddie Swain hasn't panned out as a receiver at UF....

In 2018, WR/PR Freddie Swain, was one of only 5 players in FBS who caught at least 5 TD passes and averaged more than 10 yards per punt return. Swain ranked 19th nationally with an average of 10.2 yards per return, including an 85-yard punt return for a TD.

Savage mentioned that Ethan White was down 35-37 lbs. so far. Mods at another site said they could see him playing in the 330-340 range so he's not that far off right now.

Nick Savage has done an incedible job with Ethan; hope it keeps on going. Can you imagine how his Mother must feel when she looks at his progress !!

If he is able to get down to the 330/340 range, he may not start, but I think he gets on the field.

Early Entree been very, very good for him !

Dan is getting some 'road-graders' for his running game, and a 'New & Improved' Great Florida Wall for the QB to stand behind. I'm liking it so far.... :)

You really don't want a Freshman starting anyhow but there'll be a couple in the 2-deep this year.

gbo, I want the 'best players' at the position to start, class is irrelevant to ability.

While the 'ideal' is to have OL'men take a redshirt, a few can start immediately, and some other's can start at some point in their tFr seasons. Come Aug. 24th, we'll get to see who's got it and who hasn't.

2015: Martex Ivey - Played in 12 games, starting in the last 8 at LG.
2015: Tyler Jordan Appeared in all 14 games, starting the final 3 at RG.
2015: Fred Johnson - Appeared in 8 games, starting 2 at RT.
2016: Jawaan Taylor - Played in all 13 games and started 12 at RT.

Because Dan has a few returning OL'men with playing experience, I don't see more than 1-2 tFr getting an immediate start on the OL, but that's just me guessing. We'll see...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nick Savage has made quite an impact in his first two seasons as Florida's Director of Strength and Conditioning. It was evident last season and it still is this spring, most notably with early enrollee and offensive lineman, Ethan White.

White was a three-star recruit out of Clearwater that showed solid promise. The only issue was that White entered at 6-foot-5 and 392 pounds according to UF.

“Obviously he was heavy when he got here,” Savage said. “Our biggest thing is that he continues to drop at an appropriate rate, which is safe for him."

White started to work with Savage and train to drop the weight. (now at 355)

“So we do work and he’s got extra protocols that we follow and things like that but the biggest thing’s nutrition and putting the time and effort to see the weight continue to come off.”

Good write up here:

GBO,
Agree.

In the SEC, expeience & technique important, very few tFR have that, never mind picking up the offense. When Martez Ivey & other started in their tFR seasons, IMO, it was because Muschamp screwed up on OL recruiting.

Observations on Saturday's 11-on-11 practice / scrimmage per the Gainesville Sun -

"...Freshman offensive lineman Ethan White worked with the second-team offense at left guard.

At times, things escalated. White seemingly defended Franks on what the lineman believed was an unnecessarily hard hit by Carter on the quarterback. Franks proceeded to spike the ball at the helmet of Carter, leading several players to join in."

"...Offensive lineman Brett Heggie was limited during the day, and trainers were looking at his right hand near the end of practice. Heggie already had the same arm wrapped prior to practice."

Heggie has had multiple medical issues. Hope this one clears up. If not, Ethan, get in there !

Early Entry, Nick Savage, & what must be a very strong personal work ethic producing wonders for Ethan. At 6'5" and 350 (or so) lbs, he has the size & potential to be an absolute "Road-Grader" (as Urban used to say) at OG.

Hoping that he has the mental toughness to stick with Nick Savage's teachings / instructions over the summer.

I don't think the regular coaching staff can, but is Nick Savage allowed to interact with players over the summer ?

So most of that was about him as a PR, yet you use that to refute criticism of him as a WR. Brilliant.

Yes. Coaches can too technically they just aren’t supposed to ‘instruct.’ But they all bend that rule.

oozie7,

Thanks, I am not up to date on NCAA regs, all I remember is aticles from back when, where the HC, would solemnly say something like "we have to depend on our QB to organize & lead our workouts over the summer."

Yea it’s just 1-on-1 coaching that isn’t allowed by coaches. But it always happens. They supervise workouts and everything.

4 star Junior WR Swain's numbers have improved each year at UF
For 2018: 11 GP, 14 for 265 yds, 18.9 yds/rec, 5 TD's, L 65 yds.

Considering the quality and depth of UF's WR/TE/RB receivers, that looks pretty good to me. The 22 Special Teams Punt Returns (10.2 yds/ave) were the icing on his cake. (it also will increase his value to an NFL team next year) o_O

BTW, you're in a race to see if your village idiot stupidity exceeds your gross ignorance...

Granthams BUCK position (OLB/DE) Spring candidates include:

DE/OLB Malik Langham 6-4 286 rsFr (may eventually become a very quick DT)

DE/OLB Zach Carter 6-4 280 rsSo (another very fast almost DT)

DE.OLB Luke Ancrum 6-5 264 rsSr (yet another almost DT)

DE/OLB Jonathan Greenard 6-4 263 rsJr

DE/OLB Jabari Zuniga 6-4 257 rsSr

Zuniga just had a monster practise according to the web. Might not be hearing much on them but it's because the coaches aren't giving him tons of reps, trying to keep the injury bug away. But when he's in - lights out. Greenard has been really good as well - the press say that he's super smooth and almost comes off as faster than you thought.

Yep gbo, and Langham and Carter have also been lighting it up with their size and speed.
I think that they will be good to go with the front 7 for the 2019 season. Keep in mind that there are still 16 more from the new class to arrive this summer with 2-3 months to get ready to go if they are needed.
The EE FNG guys look better to me than the ones that are going to be gonzo...

While the DB-U guys are rock solid and deeper than last season.

From what you have said previously, I assume this was just lip service to stay out of trouble. Do any of the recruiting assistants (Keiwan Ratliff) or quality control coaches (Chuck Heater) get involved over the summer ?

Most likely. I don’t know how Mullen instructs his staff but that’s how it was with us. Give you an example during off-season we’d have 7-on-7 and the coaches would be on the sideline. As long as they didn’t give 1-on-1 it was fine. And if we went off to the sideline and asked a question they could instruct. So of course there was instruction on every play lol. It’s a very soft rule.
