I grew up in Duval but my husband and I are raising our family in neighboring St. John’s county (very red). I think a lot of conservatives have left Jax proper for bedroom counties with better schools, less crime, etc. Glad to see Duval went red in the end, though!
Dockside was the spot to go to back then, quarter beers and wings. Since we’re being nostalgic on Jax Westside, throw Yesterdays as a dive bar, Tom and Betty’s (original on Park st, ) the Ramada on lane Ave and Denny Moran’s river bar to the list.
Jax is FULL of newcomers and they’re from everywhere. There are Caribbean Islanders, South Americans, Albanians, Asians, and Indians.
If nothing else the restaurant scene is interesting.
