Starting QB for Michigan game?

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/...lly-and-mentally-after-rough-2016-with-gators

So here he is. A year after winning the Gators’ starting quarterback job, he’s trying to do it again with longer odds as redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks moved atop the depth chart in the spring and former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire joined the roster in June as a high-profile graduate transfer.

Where does that leave Del Rio?

“I don’t really care. Like, no offense, I do not care what our fans think about the competition. I care who’s taking the first snap against Michigan,” he said. “I’m going to do everything I can to be that guy, but above everything else I want the best quarterback to play. I want to win.”

Florida coach Jim McElwain, who said all spring Del Rio was still in the picture, reiterated that point Wednesday on the eve of preseason camp.

I know the offense really well, I think I’m a leader of men, I communicate really well, my arm is back to 100 percent, I know the playbook inside and out, I know what the coaches want to do, I know how to move the ball and I have experience. … I’m confident in what I can do,” he said.

I know that can be spun to not really mean much but LDR needs to stop the nonsense with the fans on twitter and in articles and just keep quiet for a change. Heck he is probably not even an FBS level QB in reality

LOL. You guys are gullable. Del Rio isn't starting at QB in the Michigan game.

I actually think he would if Zaire rolled an ankle or something prior to the game. I have a hard time seeing Mac trotting Franks out there for his first start with how he seems to be thinking now.

I want to believe this is correct. For one thing, I don't see how the coaches could be running an open competition at qb, when they would have to run different offenses to accommodated their skills (and I use the term loosely where Del Rio is concerned). I would think they would have to make up their minds pretty soon whether their offense is going to feature a running qb or not.

Zaire is starting the Michigan game barring an injury. Mac knows its not smart to give a kid gis first college start against Michigan and their DC. I do agree with Fever that if Zaire were to go down in camp its not out of the question, but even then I would only think it was for that game. Franks will re-enter the picture week two if Zaire is hurt or looks awful. But every report I have read says the offensive starters really like Zaire.

I really believe its Zaire this year and barring him filing for a 6th year of eligibility we go right to Corral

Spurrier seems to be high on Franks

I think zaire starts the first half and someone takes over for him unless he is slaying it. LDR is in the pc tho. I dont see how he couldnt be. At least in the first half of the yr. If Franks gets ready by 2nd half of the yr and u start losing games, i would put franks in to get confidence and game experience. I think the Gators are 1 yr away from contending again(nationally) if Franks is "the man".

I think after week 1 Franks may emerge as a real option. Judging from the way it appears practice went Zaire and Franks are the legitimate options

Yep sounded like LDR had some major rust in the part that was open to the press.

As much as it may pain you, I don't see LDR replacing Zaire for talent reasons. Zaire throws the ball better and obviously is a complete 180 in athleticism. Its Zaire and Franks, thats pretty clear

I like where LDR is gushing over his abilities.

Knows the offense better than anyone, a real leader of men...then casually glosses over his passing ability by saying "my arm is at 100%."

So is mine, but 100% of bad isn't good.

LOL

So if zaire gets injured in 1st quarter. Who goes in? My guess is LDR. Now if this hapoens in the 6th or 7th game, i say franks. Jus my opinion tho

sadgator fears that Michigan is seriously going to drub us.

Michigan won't blow us out, they don't have the type of offense to do that without us giving them gifts to their defense on pick sixes or turnovers in great field position... They run the ball a lot of and grind that clock down to blow us out, their offense just isn't that type..

If anyone gets blown out it will be us most likely, but it will be low scoring most likely for 2.5 to first 3 quarters...

and if Zaire got hurt i think Franks would be the guy going in...

I actually feel much better about this game than most of our fans at this point, I really think Zaire is gonna show what he's capable of that night and put his name back on the map and for our program..

Zaire was very good for ND if that translates over and they use him properly. He could be excellent

well he won't have to be great for us to win, or to be better than the other freshmen and del rio.. especially in the first games against Michigan and Tennessee...

I think how he played at ND would be good enough for us to win most games as long as the defense was still pretty good and didn't have a real big dropoff.

There has never been a more appropriate use of an emoticon.
Wellllll :p:p to you too.... :D

 the stealth / secret plan might be in the making.... It's Trask... :D

Del Rio starting where he left off. No respect from the defender due to his arm strength probably.

Just curious how many games did Del Rio lose last year as a starter? Decipher that...

he lost an entire career and 5 games worth in that absolutely embarrassing driskelesque showing to a shit arkansas defense that sixtupled better their pathetic defensive stats because of that limp dick noodle arm. That was the most embarrassing loss not to FSU over the years, downright pathetic. Couldn't even score a TD on a team giving up Big East numbers to EVERYONE else on their schedule. Nothing new, our QB's make any defense look like the best year after year. Del Rio has an attitude about everyone knowing he blows dicks too? lol go on somewhere noodle kid

I'm going to defer to the coaches for the best decision on who to start against Meatchicken.

The fighting Jim Mandichs are a field goal to 4 point favorite.

TG

"Fastball reps start with the twos and threes, Franks with the twos, Zaire with the threes. Del rio then goes with the ones.

Del Rio with a nice deep corner.

I think UF can find a serviceable guy out of Zaire, Franks and a healthy Del Rio."
