Last night in the US Women's National team game (semi-final of the CONCAF Gold Cup) vs Canada it was one of the most bizarre scenes I have seen. It poured down rain before the game and the field was covered with standing water...the field drains well apparently but the amount of rain overwhelmed the drainage system. They started the game but the ball wouldn't roll at all. The game was a farce as each time a player tried to pass to another player, the ball stopped a few feet away. The ref became so annoyed that she blew the whistle, stopped the game and walked over with the ball near the sideline looking up at the press box where the officials were. Then rolled the ball a couple times, each time the ball didn't roll at all...she was pleading with them to stop the game...to no avail. They played on...the US scored when the Canada defender tried to pass back to the goalie so she could clear the ball and the ball stopped halfway to the goalie, the US girl ran up on it and popped it in to the goal.
Apparently it stopped raining around halftime and the field started to drain and the second half was somewhat better.
