We'd all like UF to win championships. Let's take that as a "given."
Given the current situation, with NIL & Portal being what they are:
We will have to outspend the Georgias, Alabamas, Ohio States, etc. until we "catch them."
They're in "Maintenance." They have facilities in place, booster base, a winning tradition & record of sending guys to the NFL.
We definitely aren't. We are in better than we were a few years ago thanks to facilities upgrades, etc., but even with all that, "winning tradition" is a detriment - we've not been "championship quality good" since 2009.
We need the kids who've been picking "them." It will be extraordinarily difficult to get the number of 'those kids' we need if the best we can do is "match the money."
And forget it if we can't.
If we can do that, then we WILL catch them over time.
Outbidding "them" will get us more of the best. Over time, we'll close the "on field" gap, which will make the other stuff more valuable to our pitch.
If the best we can do now is "match them," it will be difficult - perhaps impossible - to catch them.
Can't allow your business to operate at a significant disadvantage against your competitors and then gripe about not beating them.
"Who's the coach?" can't solve this problem, not the way the system's currently structured.
