I spoke to a couple sources today and gathered some information on Rivals100 Maryland QB commit Dwayne Haskins Jr.

  • He is still committed to Maryland
  • Maryland Athletics Director Kevin Anderson has reached out to Haskins.
  • With Mike Locksley likely leaving Maryland, Haskins is in a holding pattern with the Terps until he can begin the process of building a relationship with Durkin and the new staff.
  • Under the direction of coach Durkin, Maryland defensive line coach and area recruiter Chad Wilt visited Haskins at his school today. Wilt also visited Keith Simms and Adam McLean.
  • Haskins reportedly enjoyed his official visit to Florida but is a little confused by the quarterback situation there (him, Franks & Eason). He will wait to see how things play out.
  • LSU remains in contact with Haskins and so does his cousin Kevin Toliver.
  • If Haskins were to take an official visit to another school it would be to LSU.

A few of my thoughts:

  • As things stand right now, I think Haskins sticks with Maryland but a lot depends on the new offensive coordinator. Of the names initially mentioned as OC candidates (Ohio State co-OCs Tim Beck and Ed Warinner), Beck seems to be one favored by Durkin. When Ohio State was a major player for Haskins early in his recruitment, Tom Hermann was the OC at Ohio State and that was who Haskins was dealing with most, not Beck or Warinner. If Maryland does hire either one of them, it won't have the big impact one might expect.
  • Mike Locksley's move will influence Haskins so expect him to take a close look at the school Locksley lands at.
  • It sounds like the fluidity and uncertainty at Florida with their quarterback situation is making Haskins a little uneasy. Former LSU commit Felipe Franks is currently committed to Florida but LSU could is still in the picture with him. Georgia QB commit Jacob Eason just took an official visit to Florida but is also taking one to Miami, where former UGA coach Mark Richt is the new head coach. Don't expect Haskins to move forward with Florida unless he has a clear understanding of which QBs the Gators want.
  • That situation with Florida is also affecting the LSU/Haskins relationship. If LSU doesn't end up getting Franks back, they will turn to Haskins to fill the void.
