Noles are really screwed right now.
They need a home run hire to bring the fans back, but they can't afford a home run hire.
They fired a coach after 1 1/2 years because going .500 for a few years was completely unacceptable to the spoiled fanbase, so any up and comers who might look at the FSU job as a big step forward career-wise are going to think twice before going to a school willing to make such a move so quickly, particularly since the roster is fairly pedestrian and the culture is terrible. Anyone looking at what is likely a three year rebuild and seeing that the school doesn't have the patience for a three year rebuild is going to say thanks but no thanks.
You can laugh at Butch Jones, but it could very well be him or someone like him, someone with nothing to lose.

FSU just offered stoops $8-9 mil a year, we have the money.
Taggart was inept at FSU. Yes he only got 21 games, but his team looked the exact same vs UM as they did vs VTECH 2018. Penalties insane, horrible in game decisions, blowing big lead after big lead, and we are just starting to hear the ridiculous stories of disfunction that were going on behind the scenes. He was a train wreck and FSU did the right thing in cutting ties early. FSU would certainly give another coach a little more time to turn things around if they were losing in a half respectable manner. WT was not. It had nothing to do with a “spoiled” fanbase.
And the roster is not lights out, but I would put it a touch above pedestrian, at least he could recruit.
FSU admin has done some real bone headed things the last few years so they certainly can botch this hire.
IMO just give it to 4-Odell, Briles OC, Leavitt DC and see what happens ( the Orgeron model) if that big name guy is not there.

This sure doesn't sound like FSU is has money hanging out of their pockets. I wonder if the story is true about the founder of Spanx actually donated $20 million alone. From what I hear she's also an FSU grad.

Sorry bub, it has everything to do with a spoiled fanbase. Your fans stopped coming to the point that the buyout was cheaper than the projected lost revenue, your admin panicked and jumped the gun.
See, let me explain this again. There are four types of coaches. Those in better positions and making better money are obviously out. (Don't be offended, this includes the NFL).
Then there are those who are available with so much success on their resume that they aren't concerned about a rebuild. They are rare, but Bob Stoops is in this category. You couldn't meet his requirements, so he said no. This is known.
The third kind is the up and comers, the coordinators, the small school coaches, etc. They are looking to climb the ladder. Which one of these is going to come to FSU? You just crushed one up and comer's career without giving him a full cycle. You can't be trusted. You might get one for whom this is a BIG step up, like a Boise or Bowling Green coordinator, that type.
The final kind is the coaches on the down side, been fired, maybe are working as a coordinator, maybe on TV. These are the guys desperate to get back into coaching. Will work for cheap. This is the vast majority of your pool.
