The President has the ultimate authority to declassify / classify items as well as grant security clearances. This is non negotiable. Any interference will be exactly what Trump needs to fire him. This was a check mate type of deal. Either they produce the documents and show they are corrupt, or fail to obey the order and get fired and the documents still are produced.
