UF Gymnastics, Tennis & Lacrosse (And Golf/Track)

On ESPNU #7 Gator lacrosse is trailing Maryland 6-3 at halftime in a game in which Florida has played the Terps hard, but have had trouble converting on the offensive end, which is very unusual for the high-powered Gator offense. Early in the season Maryland beat Florida 18-8, won the draw control battle 24-6 and dominated the game. Florida is ahead in draw controls today, but Maryland's defense has forced the Gators to take lower percentage shots, plus they've missed a couple of fairly easy shots. Maryland has worked themselves into easier looks and capitalized on them better than Florida so far. They've had 11 shots on goal and made 6, we've had 8 shots on goal and made 3. Hopefully they can bounce back in the 2nd half, although Maryland has made it to the Final 4 in 12 of the last 13 seasons.

UF lacrosse ended their season today in Maryland, losing to the Terps 18-5, finishing with a 17-5 record. The Gators played Maryland tough the first half, trailing only 6-3 at the break. But Maryland dominated the 2nd half, outscoring the Gators 8-1 in the 3rd quarter to put the game away. Florida had another solid season and have established themselves as a perennial Top 10 program. They just can't seem to break through into the Top 5, as teams like Maryland, North Carolina, Boston College, and to a lesser extent Boston College & Northwestern, just seem to be able to bring in more elite players year in and year out. Florida coach Amanda O'Leary has done a great job building the Gator lacrosse program, winning whatever conference they are in every year except their very first year of competition.

#8 Kentucky has just knocked off #1 TCU in the Men's Tennis quarterfinals to advance to the Final 4. #2 Florida meets #7 Virginia at 8 pm in another quarterfinal match. Tennessee vs. Baylor and Michigan vs. Ohio State are the other quarterfinal matches being played today.

#6 Tennessee upset #3 Baylor in Men's Tennis to give 2 SEC teams in the Final 4 already, with #2 Florida losing the doubles point to #7 Virginia to fall behind 0-1. That means the Gators have to win 4 of the 6 singles matches to keep from being eliminated.

Gator men up in 3 matches and down in 3 matches. Looks like we are definitely going to lose the 5. Not looking great at the moment. Big day of upsets.

Got the win at 4 to tie it at 1. We are up in 1 match, tied in 2 matches, and down in 2 matches. Going to be a squeaker if we can pull it out.

Well, season comes to an end. 4-1 UVA. They took control with the doubles point and never looked back.

Gator Men's Tennis had their 21 game doubles win streak snapped to start the night, there was a 2-hour weather delay shortly after the singles matches got underway and Florida men just couldn't win tight games and they got knocked out in the NCAA quarterfinals against a Virginia team they had beaten earlier in the year 4-2. Their only point came from And Andrade at #4 singles. The Final 4 will be Kentucky vs. Ohio State & Tennessee vs. Virginia. Florida did not meet the Buckeyes this year, but beat Kentucky & Tennessee twice.
