“Biden has crippled our patriotic oil & gas industry and every American is paying the price,” the email continued, a screenshot of which was obtained by HuffPost. “Many have been FORCED to turn off the heat in their homes because the prices are simply too high, leaving families without warmth during the winter,” the message continued.

The email urges readers to take a survey about drilling for oil and gas and the link reportedly redirects them to Scott’s campaign page asking for money. One Twitter user called the politician “Another cunning grifter.”

When you dive in the Yahoo News link and read through this article, you will learn it was written by "TheGrio" staff. I don't see a byline for an actual person who wrote the article and posted it - I wonder why?

Their hard-hitting journalistic tactics include quoting unattributed and anonymous Twitter users. The only thing missing a photoshopped Nazi flag behind Tim Scott.

Because it was written by the staff?

April Ryan is the main reporter on political issues as Washington bureau chief
The owner is Byron Allen

The hard hitting journalism is about email published by Tim Scott...

Its disguised as a official warning about your heat being turned off but its really a fundraising request

Thanks for the info on the The Grio.

Well, the email from Tim Scott is certainly an attention-grabber. It might be unethical but doesn't seem illegal. I'm sure no Democrat would ever think to send out misleading emails......

No one said it was illegal. has that become the standard now after trump?

Grifting has become the regular M.O. of the republican party since trump rose to power

Most pols are liars. Notice I didn't differentiate between Dems and Pubs. The honest ones running for office will probably not remain honest once they get in office. JMO

So we should applaud the actions of Sen Scott?

Should everyone fundraise by lying to scare their constituents?
Or encourage political violence?

I am generally, as this board notes, a big fan of Tim Scott.

If this is based off of evidence, very good. Generally, higher gas prices have devastating impacts on lower income communities.

If it is scare tactics, then come on, Tim. Be better.

Should we applaud the RATS 🐀 who fundraise and try and scare the seasoned citizens over Social security and Medicare Every election?

Grassley Calls Out Democrats On Social Security And Medicare

It’s typical during an election season to hear Democrats try to scare people into believing that Republicans want to destroy programs that Americans rely on for health and security.

Last I checked the republicans wanted to put SS & Medicare up for sunset every 5 years

So Grassley is lying...no surprise there ;)

Dec. 5 I received my final electricity bill for 2022. This is by far my most expensive year for electricity the 12 years I've been in this house. My house is total electric. No doubt there are some in the Greater Waco Metropolitan area who are gonna need aid or their heat is going to be turned off.

I know Tim Scott was busy working hard on police reform and maybe he never heard that the Biden - Harris Whitehouse addressed this issue in the Infrastructure & American Rescue Plan legislation

If its just ignorance, then come on Tim...You're only a Senator. Be better when you're lying

  • Funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Are Building on the American Rescue Plan’s Investment That More Than Doubled LIHEAP Funding: The Biden-Harris Administration has delivered nearly $8 billion in LIHEAP funding nationally, more than doubling typical annual appropriations—thanks to an additional $4.5 billion provided by President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Earlier this month, the White House announced state-by-state breakdown of this funding (see below for total awards to date by state/territory). Last week, the Administration also distributed the first $100 million installment of a five-year, $500 million investment in LIHEAP provided by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These funds represent the largest investment in a single year since the program was established in 1981. These resources are already allowing states across the country to provide more home energy relief to low income Americans than ever before.

Energy prices rising in Orangeburg, assistance available to customers
As customers use more energy to keep warm, prices are going up

Individuals in our communities and all communities in the United States have difficulty paying utility bills during the entire year but especially during the winter months so Congress made available the low income home energy assistance program," said OCAB executive director Calvin Wright.

He says over the course of a year, several million dollars are spent through this program to cover the cost of water and utility bills through Dominion Energy and DPU. The amount of money one qualifies for depends on their income and other factors.

Rough winter for the elderly. First the pubs took away their Social Security, then Hiden took away their heat.

That’s your example? Some old guy trying to recapture the past?
By the way your timing stinks. Yesterday in El Paso was a disaster and Mayorkas is headed to the border today, no doubt for a photo op and another opportunity to lie about how the Biden Administration is so adept at dealing with an INVASION of our country.

Only difference is that its true,
Republicans do wan to cut Social Security & Medicare

Key House minority leaders threaten to force cuts to Social Security and Medicare

There is concrete evidence that key House minority leaders plan to hold the borrowing cap hostage, threatening a catastrophic U.S. default unless they get the cuts they seek to Social Security and Medicare. According to Bloomberg Government reporting, four House Republicans, all vying to be the next House Budget Committee chair, have indicated that they plan to hold the debt ceiling hostage to Social Security and Medicare cuts if their party regains the House majority:

What does this have to do with Scott lying in his fundraising?

Don’t worry Ray, the Uniparty will come through and save the day…. Spending more money that we don’t have (the gap being made by generous financing from our Saudi and Chinese “friends” through their purchase of government securities).

So many of our government programs are on spending autopilot….. it’s sickening.

I don’t begrudge people getting their benefits but I do worry about the long-term solvency of Social Security and Medicare. We absolutely have to get our financial house in order.

I suppose your support of Tim Scott can even ignore his ignorance about pregnancy & abortion too huh? 🤣

Lying in fundraising is a regular thing for Scott

Covid went a long way towards helping said solvency. Which sort of makes you wonder, no?

LMAO….. Of course no Democrat would ever send out a dishonest campaign fundraising notice would they?

Elections have consequences.
No government subsidies for energy bills.
Let people freeze.
Years ago a colleague (both in our mid-20s) refused to contribute to his 401k instead opting to take the $25 per paycheck and purchase Dolphins and Heat season tickets. When I asked him who is going to pay your bills when you retire and have no money? He looked at me with a straight face and said…you are.
Apparently 80 million people voted for this nonsense and I’m tired of my money going to bail them out.

LIHEAP was begun in 1980 under Ronald Reagan...

Just SMH at the conservative talking points thrown out as a response by the uneducated

History[edit]

LIHEAP history began in 1980 when congress created the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), as part of the Crude Oil Windfall Profits Tax Act to answer the concerns of the rising energy prices of the 1970s. In 1981, LIEAP was replaced with LIHEAP as part of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. In 1984, the Human Services Reauthorization Act added a new goal to provide funds for cooling costs of low-income households. Congress also required the use of more recent population and energy data, which meant the shifting of funds from solely cold-weather states to warm-weather states.
