A jury convicted former President Donald Trump’s company on multiple tax fraud charges on Tuesday in a New York court.

After deliberating for one day, the jury delivered a guilty verdict on all 17 counts, which included tax fraud and other financial crimes, against the Trump Organization. Prosecutors alleged that executives at the company devised a scheme to avoid paying taxes that included "indirect" payments made to top officers for items like school tuition, apartments and cars. The verdict came after a three-year investigation by prosecutors. Trump was not personally on trial, but prosecutors alleged during the proceedings that he knew of the fraud being committed at the company, a charge he has denied.

The Trump Organization was charged with scheming to defraud, conspiracy, criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records. The guilty verdicts mean it will now face a $1.6 million fine.

Trump is still being investigated by New York state Attorney General Letitia James for allegedly misleading financial institutions about the value of his various assets, including real estate and golf courses. In September, James announced she was suing Trump and three of his adult children in civil court, seeking $250 million in damages.

He will always find suckers to pay his bills.

LOL, yes.
In general I will say that's proven to be true

But the ramifications of this guilty verdict are more than the fine on the
organization from this case

How Trump Org's tax fraud conviction could bar Trump from federal contracts, even for Secret Service

  • The Trump Organization was found criminally liable of tax fraud on Tuesday after a six-week trial.
  • The conviction could ban Trump from doing business with the federal government.
  • A ban could end his 'exorbitant' billing of Secret Service agents who protect him at his resorts.

Last month, a judge required Trump's firm to submit to an outside monitor as part of an on-going $250 million civil case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

James' lawsuit claims Trump and his children fraudulently manipulated the value of its real estate holdings for more than a decade, deceiving lenders and and cheating tax authorities.

James reacted to Tuesday's verdict with a statement. "We can have no tolerance for individuals or organizations that violate our laws to line their pockets," she said.

"I was proud to assist in this important case. This verdict sends a clear message that no one, and no organization, is above our laws."

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg says this is just step 1 in this case

trump & his family still face possible criminal indictment personally for these tax fraud / business operations charges in both the Manhattan & NYS AG cases

Donald Trump’s legal woes are going from bad to worse, as he’s just been hit with another bombshell; this time as a spate of court rulings have rejected claims by the former president and some of his allies for executive privilege preventing them from testifying in court. Omg!

Democrats on a pair of congressional committees have launched an aggressive new effort to obtain information about whether Jared Kushner’s actions on U.S. policy in the Persian Gulf region as a senior White House adviser were influenced by the bailout of a property owned by his family business.

Citing previously undisclosed emails and other documents related to former president Donald Trump’s son-in-law, the committees on Monday night sent letters to the State and Defense departments requesting material that they say could shed new light on whether “Kushner’s financial conflict of interest may have led him to improperly influence U.S. tax, trade and national security policies for his own financial gain.”

Manhattan prosecutor: Even with Trump Org conviction, investigation is ‘ongoing’

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) said the investigation involving former President Trump is “ongoing” in the aftermath of his family organization being convicted of tax fraud.

Bragg said on “CNN This Morning” on Wednesday that he views the case against the Trump Organization as “one chapter in the book” for his team’s probe.

“While those team members were in court, others were in the office continuing our broader investigation, so the work continues,” he said.

"Hunter Biden: Does personal business deals as a private citizen. Jared Kushner: Got a $1 billion loan from the Saudis while working in the WH, and a $2 billion investment from the Saudis months after leaving the WH. GOP wants to investigate one of them. Guess which!"

Kushner reportedly received a $2 billion investment from the Public Investment Fund led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman after he left the White House last year. The House Oversight Committee said in June that it will investigate this deal.

The money was invested in Kushner's newly established private equity firm Affinity Partners, according to The New York Times, which cited previously undisclosed documents from the fund's advisers, who had concerns about the deal.

They were reportedly worried about Kushner's inexperience in fund management, "unsatisfactory" operations and "public relations risks," among other concerns, but the crown prince made the deal with Kushner's firm anyway.

Michael Flynn testifies in Georgia election probe

In an interview on a right-wing cable news channel in mid-December 2020, Flynn said Trump “could take military capabilities” and place them in swing states and “basically re-run an election in each of those states,” Willis wrote in a petition seeking to compel his testimony.

Flynn also met at the White House on Dec. 18, 2020, with Trump, attorney Sidney Powell and others associated with the Trump campaign for a meeting that, according to news reports, “focused on topics including invoking martial law, seizing voting machines, and appointing Powell as special counsel to investigate the 2020 election,” Willis wrote.

And he attended meetings in November 2020 at the South Carolina home of conservative attorney Lin Wood. Willis wrote that Wood said in a television interview that they met to look into possible ways to influence the election results in Georgia and elsewhere. Wood has said that he testified before the special grand jury last month.

After Midterm Losses, GOP Leaders Move to Embrace Mail Voting. Trump May Not Let Them

Eric Cortellessa
Fri, December 9, 2022 at 8:42 AM·12 min read

As Republicans try to shake off their loss in Georgia’s Senate runoff, the final election in a midterm election cycle where they fell far short of their own expectations, the soul searching has begun. And among many of the party elite, one idea in particular is gaining traction: the GOP war on voting by mail was a strategic blunder.

“One of the first lessons we have to take from the midterms is the power of early voting,” tweeted conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk last month. “We simply have to beat them at this VBM game,” added Blake Masters, who lost a bid to oust Arizona’s Democratic Senator, Mark Kelly. And on Wednesday former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich called on his party to embrace mail ballots after Herschel Walker’s defeat in Georgia, where Republicans passed a restrictive voting law last year that made it harder to vote by mail.

While debates over GOP messaging and candidate quality are likely to drag on for months, many of the party’s leading voices are publicly coming to grips with a self-defeating strategy of putting all their eggs in the Election Day basket. Yet there remains a considerable obstacle standing in the way of conservatives changing course: The most influential figure on the American right remains vehemently opposed to voting at any point before Election Day.

“REMEMBER, YOU CAN NEVER HAVE FAIR & FREE ELECTIONS WITH MAIL-IN BALLOTS,” former President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social last week. “NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. WON’T AND CAN’T HAPPEN!!!” The next day, he added to the thread: “NEVER!”

The diverging takeaways reflect an internecine dispute now roiling the Republican Party. A growing number of GOP bigwigs believe that Democrats gained a competitive advantage in the last two election cycles by going all-in on vote by mail, whereas Trump and some of his allies are doubling down on baseless claims that mail ballots are rife with fraud, one of the core falsehoods behind Trump’s insistence that Joe Biden didn’t win the 2020 election.
