I think we could all use some after being a part of last night's chat, which was tough to be a part of. I enjoy the chats, I value Jason's opinion and knowledge of the program. So getting his takes real time is awesome, but I might be done with the chats for a while (probably not though, lol).
So here's some perspective. Barring a little success under the early Mullen years, our program has been really bad for over a decade. Prior to Billy's arrival, the talent was depelted and the locker room was broken. We had a coach quit on his team and players quit on a program. Billy took over a broken program with poor depth at every position.
The start to the Billy tenure was rough to say the least. All along though, he stayed the course and continued to upgrade the roster, build the foundations. We as fans were asked to be patient. We were not (my self included as I lost faith after A&M). Fortunately the players and staff never quit. They kept grinding and fighting. Since Tennessee we have seen the program and roster building over the 1st two years translate to the field.
We had Tennessee, playoff team, beat on the road. However, this team wasn't ready to win yet. We had Georgia beat, another playoff team, then Lagway goes down. Horrible luck. Then, we beat LSU and Ol Miss, two ranked teams. The improvement on the field is obvious, we've seen it, then, we go on the road and beat a Rival by 20.
During that beating of the Rival, in a game that was NEVER in doubt, on a play by play basis, the chat did nothing but criticize the team and how bad they are.
That's just crazy to me. Have some perspective, have some faith throughout the game, the team and staff have earned it over the back half of the year. We're going to a bowl game, don't know who we will play, don't care, I bet we beat them. I also bet throughout the game, there will be mistakes. I ask the fans have faith, this team and staff have faith and don't quit in each other during the game. We as fans have to start doing the same. I love the passion, but criticizing literally every play call that goes for less than 4 yards like anyone on this board knows more about offense than the staff is just a bad take.
I get it, there is still room for improvement at virtually every position and in every area of the program, but we saw improvement everywhere this year. The young guys who got experience this year are a big reason for the improvement. We should be excited. Enjoy the recent Success and have faith the staff and team will make another leap of improvement next year. I think the team and staff and earned a little bit of damn trust from us.
