I watched most of this match. I just wonder what the MPH is on the ball when Beason strikes it. Wow!

UF soccer ended their season Thursday night with a 4-1 loss to Texas A&M. They finished the season 2-14-1, 0-9-1 in the SEC, their worst ever. They only scored 16 goals for the season while giving up 39. Gator soccer has replaced Women's basketball as the worst sport on campus and it's going to take a lot of work to get this program back to respectability. It's sad because for many years Florida was a top national program that dominated the SEC. And now we're not even the 4th best program in the state. We were 4-12-4, 3-6-1 last year, 6-8-3, 1-6-1 in the COVID 2020-21 season, and haven't been a true contender in the SEC since 2017. The program has hit rock bottom and there's no way but up and it's a relief that the season is finally over.

Florida is a big soccer state, gotta think a good coach/recruiter can right the ship pretty quickly.

UF Volleyball remained in 1st place in the SEC by winning 2 matches against visiting Arkansas this weekend. The Gators won Saturday's match 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21), hitting .204 for the day while holding the Hogs to .036. They won in kills 38-28, assists 35-25 and digs 45-41. Sunday's match was a lot closer, but a very exciting one to watch on the SEC Network. Florida prevailed 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 15-7). The Gators hit .253 to Arkansas' .199 and won the battle of kills 66-56 and assists 64-54. Freshman Alexis Stuckey had an amazing 54 assists and 14 digs. The Gators spread out their attack, with Marina Markova recording 17 kills, Sofia Victoria 16, Merritt Beason 12 and Bre Kelley 9. The Gators now stand at 18-4, 10-2 in the SEC with an upcoming match hosting Missouri Friday at 7 pm. The SEC doesn't have an elite team this year, with the Gators being the highest ranked nationally at #14. But there is more parity and balance and that makes every match a lot tougher than they used to be in years past. Under Mary Wise, the Gators have won 24 SEC regular season titles, either outright or shared, the last one coming in 2019. They have been to 8 Final 4's and been national runner-up twice. She has an 88% winning percentage and is, I believe, the winningest active volleyball coach in Division 1. Her teams are incredibly consistent and there's never been a hint of a scandal in her program. Plus these athletes are just plain fun to watch.

UF volleyball improved to 20-4, 12-2 in the SEC by winning at Texas A&M today 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 16-25, 25-20). Florida hit .241 for the match to A&M's .115. 21 attack errors and 11 service errors kept the match closer than it should have been, but the Gators had 48, kills, 13 blocks and 47 digs, better than the Aggies in all categories. Next up is a battle for 1st place when the Gators host Kentucky next Saturday & Sunday. The teams will meet tied for the SEC lead, assuming the Wildcats win a midweek match against Tennessee.

#10 Gator Volleyball improved to 21-4, 13-2 Saturday by sweeping #19 Kentucky 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-21), temporarily knocking the Wildcats out of a 1st place tie in the SEC. Florida outhit KY .310 - .135, with 46 kills to their 33. Both teams had 8 blocks, but the Gators had 53 digs to KY's 33. Sofia Victoria hit .579 with 13 kills, Alexis Stuckey had 35 assists and 5 kills, Marina Markova had 11 kills, while Bre Kelley and Merritt Beason had 6 kills each. Impressive match to watch. The teams play again Sunday at 2 pm on the SEC Network and the Gators can clinch at least a share of the SEC title with a win.

Impressive!!!
Not so fast, my friend. :). Kentucky came back Sunday and beat the Gators 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-17) to move back into a first place tie with UF. There's not a lot of difference in these 2 teams, but today the Wildcats played a little better than Saturday, while the Gators were a little off their high quality game from yesterday. KY out hit UF .267 - .163 and they outblocked us 12-7. They had 46 kills to our 39, while we had 23 attack errors to their 15. Florida had every opportunity win either or both of the first 2 sets, but just couldn't get the big shot or the big block in crunch time. They were outplayed in the 3rd set. Kentucky finishes the regular season hosting South Carolina (12-13, 6-9 with a single match vs Auburn Wednesday), while the Gators finish on the road at Ole Miss (11-15, 7-9). If both teams win out they will share the SEC title. Kentucky has won 3 outright SEC titles in the last 5 years and shared the other 2 with the Gators.

Oops...oh well. Nice to get the split with a shot at sharing the SEC

UF volleyball beat Ole Miss 3-0 Friday night (25-20-, 25-23, 25-16) to stay in a tie for 1st place in the SEC with Kentucky, who beat South Carolina 3-0 today. Same teams play Saturday and if both teams win they share the SEC title. Go Gators!!

Gator Volleyball Co-SEC champs, but due to tiebreakers we get the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. We'll host the 1st 2 rounds as well, with pairing and seeding announced tonight at 7:30 pm.

Gator volleyball lost 3-1 to #6 Pitt in the Regional Semifinals (Sweet 16). Their season ended at 25-6 and ranked #12. Florida played a good match, with the set score being 20-25, 21-25, 25-17, 22-25, but Pitt was just a little bit better, making fewer mistakes especially in clutch situations. The Gators hit .265, .243, .571 & .256 in the 4 sets, while the Panthers hit .303, .293, -0.03 & .286. Pitt had 56 kills, Florida had 59; Florida had 58 assists, 45 from Alexis Stuckey, while Pitt had 52 assists. Pitt had 49 digs, the Gators had 55 digs, led by Ellie McKissock's 17. The big discrepancy was where Florida jad 11 service errors to Pitt's 2. That's 9 extra free points the Gators gave up and when the difference in the 3 sets we lost was a total of 12 points, those service errors hurt badly. Regardless, the Gators claimed yet another SEC championship and another Sweet 16 appearance. They only lose 1 contributing player to graduation, transfer Marina Markova, and have 3 recruits already signed for next year, 2 of them high school All Americans. Congrats to Mary Wise on another successful volleyball season!!!
