Oh My!!! Mick Hubert Retiring

Just saw this! Man, I’ll miss him! He’s been a great Gator and is hands down the best voice to hear calling Gator games, and I like most of the network commentators, so this isn’t shade at them as much as praise for Mick. He’s earned it.

Now he's a retread (re-tired) like me.
Rollin-Rollin-Rollin....
Thanks Mick for all of those excited 'OH MY's' that you've given us through the years.

The best ever as far as I’m concerned. And you can “book it”.

The Latest was Mick, but it's hard for me to call the latest, the Greatest....
BTW, the iG has been around for all 3 of them.... Boggs-Steele-Hubert

Otis Boggs held the position for over 40 years.
Boggs was a broadcast leader in his generation. He started working Florida football games as a color analyst when he was still a student in 1939. A year later and still a student, he became the Gators' play-by-play man, a position he held when he graduated graduated in 1943 from UF (with a joint degree in Chemistry, German, English and History), and kept until 1982. His down-home style and voice made listening to games feel as if your best friend were telling you everything you wanted to know about Florida football, objectivity or not.

He was Florida’s Outstanding Sportscaster from 1960-1963, the recipient of the distinguished Alumni Award from Florida’s Journalism and Communication College in 1989, a charter member of the WRUF Hall of Fame, and a member of the Florida Sports Hall of Fame (1990). On August 28, 2002, the longtime “Voice of the Gators” died at the age of 82 following a lengthy illness.

David Steele (now 68) was the Voice of the Gators from 1982-88, when he left UF to become the TV voice of the NBA expansion Orlando Magic. -- In 2019, he was inducted into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame.
Then the
2021 Florida Sportscaster of the Year, -- National Sports Media Association...

Mick Hubert took over as UF's 'Voice of the Gators' and went 33 years until his retirement at age 68.

Mick has been a great VoG, but Otis will always be the 1st and the best imoho, and he's the only one of those 3 that was a UF Grad and a Gator 1st, last, and always....

Who is going to replace Mick?

James Bates
Chris Doering
Shane Matthews
Tim Tebow
Others????

Let the rampant speculations begin....
😉

He was great on the BB game tonight. Lot of history was discussed. Said he was flying on the twin prop team plane in 93 when the pilot couldn’t find the Knoxville airport. Lol.

Somebody needs to explain to Mick that the voice of a team leaves the booth feet first.

None of those guys are play by play announcers or remotely qualified.

My guess is Marc Daniels or Jeff Cardozza (sp) will be the next UF play by play announcer.

Lee Humphrey???

Just a note:
I don't think I could care any less about who it is that next gets the mouth-a-phone....

Yeah, and neither was Otis, but then he only lasted 40 years.... 😎

But perhaps we differ in what qualifies one for such a vastly important job at today's Socialist-U... 😉

Hated to see ole Mick go out on a loss in which the Gators were so lethargic. Pitiful performance by the Gator hitters today. SC pitchers walked 9 batters, but we only got 3 hits, stranded 10 runners and just couldn't make anything happen. Lost 4-1 to a below average team with maybe the worst pitching staffs in the SEC.
