No. 4 Gators Open Play at UCF Knights Classic Tonight
Florida will open the classic against DePaul Friday night at 8:30 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The fourth-ranked Florida softball program heads to Orlando for the UCF Knights Classic that is set to take place this Friday through Sunday at the UCF Softball Complex. The Gators first game is set for Friday, Feb. 25, at 8:30 p.m. against DePaul.
The Gators (12-0) enter the weekend after the program dispatched North Florida in a pair of midweek contests, 7-1 and 8-0 (5 innings), this past Tuesday and Wednesday. The highlight of the week so far was fifth year graduate pitcher Natalie Lugo's no-hitter against the Ospreys at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium Wednesday night. It's the right-handed pitcher's second complete-game no-hitter of her career.
Florida enters The Knights Classic with an overall record of 26-10 against the field of opponents. The Orange & Blue is 1-3 overall against DePaul with the last meeting occurring Feb. 23, 2007, and 3-0 against Oakland with the last meeting being Feb. 21, 2018.
The Gators and the Knights will meet for the 30th time and UF holds a 22-7 record with the last meeting happening April 14, 2021. UF and James Madison will meet for the first time
UF is off to a hot start to the 2022 season as the Gators have outscored opponents 92-7 over 12 games played. The program also boasts five run-rule victories and seven by way of shutout, which currently ranks second nationally.
Also, in the national rankings, the Gators rank fourth in ERA (0.55), seventh in triples per game (0.67), 10th in on base percentage (0.450) and 12th in scoring with an average of 7.67 runs per game.
Individually, freshman Kendra Falby currently leads the country with 20 hits on the season and also ranks first among freshmen nationally in runs per game (1.42), runs (17), stolen bases (12), stolen bases per game (1.00) and ranks second in total bases (29).
Lugo also tied for the nation's lowest ERA as she has not allowed a run in 19.1 innings pitched and she is only one of 10 pitchers to not allow single run.
