We all need to remember that Lagway is in the 2024 class, so even if he commits to us today, there's a lot that could happen between now and when the kid actually signs.
Absolutely but I would love to get his commitment now because he’s a big time prospect that is also a QB and can help lure other great players as well.

DJ Lagway 6-3 190 - 2022 HS (Fr+So+Jr) Max Preps stats in 29 Games:
Passing - 279 of 472 59.1% for 3,788 Yds, 9.6 Ave, 42 TD's, 8 Ints, QBR 107.4
Rushing - 194 for 1,239 Yds, 6.4 ypc, 13 TD's, 4 LPF's.

2022 - 8 Gms - 134 of 200, 67%, 2,081 Yds, 15.5 Ave, 24 TD's, 5 Ints, QBR 130.4
Rushing - 50 for 517 Yds, 10.3 ypc, 7 TD's, 3 LPF's

Career P - 42 TD's 8 Ints, QBR 107.4
R - 6.4 ypc, 13 TD's, 4 LPF's.
Total - 55 TD's, 12 TO's

If that's a 5-star QB, then by comparison, Max Brown was a 6-star....

D.J Lagway just committed to UF on ESPN2. The #1 rated duel threat QB and the #12 overall rated prospect in the 2024 class. Summer Camp checked him in at 6'3" 225 lbs and his highlight reels are incredible. And he'll be allowed to play baseball for the Gators, at least early on.

Awesome info! Well then I have no doubt Brown will easily win the competition for starting QB.

Brown will likely move on to greener pastures,,, if he's smart about it.
(BTW, he was projected straight to MLB out of HS as a SS/Catcher before switching to football in his Jr season, then going 24-0 regular season as a QB-dt)

So Rashada and Lagway can battle it out with Engel and Anders....

Florida football: Gators are the favorites to land Spencer Sanders

FWIW - Click Bait du jour served up HOT !

Florida is now the favorite to land Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders, according to bookies.com.

Let's wait & see how Miller does in the L V Bowl before we add more QBs. Billy busy recruiting.

While he isn’t the flashiest with his arm or his legs and isn’t the best QB in the portal to date, Sanders would be a solid addition to the team.

His years of experience will help him stay focused in the SEC, and he can be a great mentor to Jaden Rashada during his freshman season.

This season Sanders was a little banged up at times and threw for 2,642 yards on a 57.6% completion rate with a 17:9 TD-to-INT ratio. He was also a threat with his legs, running for 391 yards and eight touchdowns.

while we certainly need QB depth, this is one where I would let the incoming Freshman and Brown battle it out next year. Or if by some miracle Miller actually looks good in the bowl game he can join the fight.

4 year starter that threw for 371 yds and 4 td's in the last Fiesta Bowl...that'll do.

Billy Napier Addresses Gators Roster Ahead of Bowl: 'We'll Be Ready to Go'

Billy Napier anticipates "a handful" of players who have entered the transfer portal to play in Florida's Las Vegas Bowl matchup with Oregon State.

At the time this story was published, 28 scholarship players from Florida's 2022 roster were known to be leaving the program this offseason if they hadn't already.

Not all of those players had worn a Gators uniform for the final time, though.

"I think we've got a handful of players that will finish with the team," head coach Billy Napier expressed on Thursday. "We have a handful of players that are in the portal that are going to be with us through the bowl."

18 scholarship players, and counting, have entered or plan to enter the transfer portal in the near future. Paired with at least five players heading to the NFL Draft as well as quarterback Jalen Kitna and edge rusher Brenton Cox Jr.'s dismissals.

UF's projected roster for the upcoming Las Vegas Bowl currently stands at 61 players.

The list of participants includes defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, who declared for the draft but plans to play in the game, as well as senior wide receiver Jordan Pouncey, linebacker Amari Burney and safety Trey Dean III, who have not made their post-collegiate career plans known.

Samson Okunlola

Florida’s 2023 quarterback commit Jaden Rashada is doing his part to recruit Okunlola, and wide receiver Aidan Mizell joined in as well on social media.

https://gatorswire.usatoday.com/lis...g-samson-okunlola-social-media-jaden-rashada/

Florida is still battling it out in the recruiting realm to land five-star Thayer Academy (Brockton, Massachusetts) offensive tackle Samson Okunlola.

The big man — he’s 6-feet-5-inches tall and 305 pounds — will make his college decision on Dec. 15, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3, and the Gators are pushing until the very end. Florida should get the last word with him during a Dec. 9 official visit, but Miami is the other major player in this race.

Previewing the official visitors for the Florida Gators for the December 9th weekend

Stanford tight end commit Jaden Platt
Louisville defensive line transfer Caleb Banks

Offensive lineman Samson Okunlola
Offensive lineman Caden Jones
Running back Mark Fletcher

UCF defensive line commit John Walker

Need them to make a good class GREAT !

Commits to visit

Joining the top targets this weekend will be five of the Gators’ commits who will be able to help recruit for the staff.

Defensive back commits Shariff Denson and Ja’Keem Jackson have had Miami hard after them for months now and this weekend the Gators look to put any concerns away as both prospects have said they’re solid with Florida.

Defensive line commit Gavin Hill will make the short drive over to campus for his official visit and the Gainesville native has been on campus multiple times this fall.

Defensive back commit Dijon Johnson and linebacker commit Jaden Robinson have both been solid to the Gators since announcing their decision and this weekend is just another chance for those guys to be around the coaching staff.

The Gators can steal Samson Okunlola from Miami’s grip.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Okunlola has been a long time lean for Miami, probably for more than eight months or so. But now with Miami’s struggles and the Gators surging a bit, they will likely make up a lot of ground as he visits this weekend. This will be his second visit in the last two months to Gainesville while he was at Miami in the summer and once again this fall. Miami still has the edge here but trust me I tell you that the Gators could steal this one.

Billy will survive -- or not, on what he does and produces. Those constantly dissing on Dan might want to STFU, as he has coached up Alex Smith, Tim Tebow, Dak Prescott, and Kyle Trask among others.

What QB's does Billy have on his list of highly successful QB's???
His 2021 LaTech team produced 3 NFL draft picks, Rnd-4 Safety & Rnd 4 Tackle, and a Rnd 6 RB.

While Billy was the OC/QB's at AzSt, he tried to recruit Miller III, but he got snubbed as Miller chose tOSU instead.

So Billy then brought xfer-portal Miller to UF as a failed 3rd string tOSU QB xfer with a DUI past, then instantly named him the #2 QB. The Fall result was in Miller getting injured and not playing a down, but at least it sent that terrible 4-Star QB Rio-Wilson to the portal, so it's all for the good anyway.

The Gator beginning 2022 QB Room:
Emory Jones - Spring, was encouraged to exit, so portal to AzSt.
Carlos Del Rio-Wilson snubbed in Spring, so exit portal to Syracuse.
AR-15 - He goes 6-6 with Billy's system/coaching and so he bolts early for the NFL
Jack Miller III - Injured at Fall practice, out for the season.
Jalen Kitna - Little used, then arrested and dismissed for CSAM to end the season.
Kyle Engel - WO named the #2 QB behind Miller following Kitna's departure.
---
Max Brown - Totally unused and still rotting on the bench.
2022 (Freshman) Has not seen action this season, from UF Bio:
Oklahoma District 3-3A HS MVP as a 2021 senior...
Threw for 2,750 yards, 71.1%, 41 passing TDs with 1,343 rushing yards plus 20 TD's. Led HS to a 13-1 record and 3A state runner-up finish...
He accounted for 4,416 passing-yards and 68 TD's, 10 Ints, in just 2 seasons playing QB. He also ran for 2,335 Yds and 33 TD's with only 1 LPF...
Total Offense - 683 plays, 6,751 Yds, 9.9 Yds/Play, 101 TD's, 11 Turnovers.
Ranked a top 15 player in the state of Oklahoma by 247Sports..
Chose Florida over Washington after de-committing from Cen.Mich.
In the iG's opinion, if Max is not ready to take snaps yet, then that's on the QB coach, not on Max....
-----

So what's the QB Room look like for 2023?
Miller rsSo ***
Engel rsJr **
Brown rsFr ***
Anders rsJr **
#7 QB Rashada Fr 6-4 185 **** - Pittsburg, CA (EE??)

One of those will be the 2023 starter, and any ship QB not willing to be a bench warming backup should be xfered out post Spring O&B.
The 2 rsJr WO's can cover as the backup QB's.
------

Anyone not willing to be a bench warming backup should be xfered out by the post-Spring in 2024, because as anyone knows, you can't beat out a 5-Star...

With HS Sr Lagway on the way for 2024, here's his Soph highlights.
#4 QB Derek (DJ) Lagway 6-2 225 ***** - Willis, TX

Napier has placed his fingerprints all over the Gators' quarterback room. He's shaped it to fit the vision of his offense, his team and his culture as he attempts to build his empire in Gainesville, so from this moment forward, it's all on him....

TLDR. I see you're no different than Lil Dickey on the sports board with copy and pastings, and those are only 4 quarterbacks who he had success with during his stops at Utah, Florida, Miss State and UF as HC. What about the others like Franks, and Emory Jones?

Miller's High School Stats are very impressive as well.

Just a question, man. You said while Napier was coaching at Arizona St. he tried to recruit Jack Miller for ASU, but was snubbed when he chose Ohio State. Napier was only at Arizona State for the 2017 season and was head coach at Louisiana from 2018-2021. Miller graduated early from Scottsdale, AZ high school in December 2019, signed with the Buckeyes then and enrolled at OSU January 2020. So Miller was a high school sophomore the one year Napier was at Arizona State and I'm fairly certain Napier wasn't recruiting him for the Sun Devils during Miller's junior and senior years in 2018 and 2019 when he was the head coach at Louisiana. So how was Napier snubbed when Miller chose to go to OSU instead of ASU? Just curious. :)

His DUI, 50%, and 3rd string status before xfer to UF notwithstanding....

From SI -- " The Gators likely aren’t done adding to the (QB) spot just yet. As Richardson departs for the NFL, targeting a one-year bridge quarterback from the transfer portal will be imperative for Florida to ensure competitiveness and proper development of young talent like Rashada in 2023 and beyond."
(I guess since Miller III didn't accomplish that in 2022, so they need yet another xfer QB)
=====

Because they've already wasted a year on development with Max Brown, so now the media-morons jump right past Brown to newbee Rashada.
And if they bring in yet another xfer QB in 2023, they they will further diminish the development of both Brown and Rashads....

Just the iG's OHO, but it's long past time for UF to move away from xfer QB's.

Ranking stars vs actual on the field HS stats:

(and may the best QB win the starting job in 2024, gooooGATORS)

But I choose to use their Max Preps stats, and their HUDL highlights film with my own eyes,,, instead of the biased $$$ recruiting stars or the BS pumpers, just like I did with Trask...
Those that agree with the HC's choices will jump in to agree with and support him. Those that don't will run down his choices and push for their own favorites. (no one's picks are 100%)

Just the iG's OHO, but with a good QB coach,,,,, with Miller - Brown - Rashada - Engle in the room, that should be plenty to get a good 1-2-3 at QB.
