In Alabama, Florida and several other states, one must take an aptitude test before being admitted to "POST "Training (police academy for your dumbass). While candidates don't have to have a college degree, you will have to have at least an AA level of understanding in several core areas.

And if you think it's easy to write arrest reports, along with many other types of reports and forms, that will be absolutely scrutinized by Grand Jury's, District Attorneys and of course defense attorneys then you should absolutely give it a try. Just fyi, you'll often be writing those reports a few moments after fighting for your life because the person you arrested was willing to do almost anything to not get caught and arrested...so you can't be stupid or a pvssy.

In all seriousness, and of course I took this job 20+ years after getting my college degree, but I'm not sure that I would have scored highly if not for my college education. I was stunned by the testing tbh...and pleased.

Finally, getting selected for POST training is a competition. There are, for example, 5 spots and 40 or 50 people competing for those spots. You get X number of points for your aptitude test, X points for your physical abilities test, X points for a college degree, X points for an AA and then, depending on state and/or departmental requirements, a psychological exam.

To put it into perspective, I had an easier time getting admitted into college.

Well I have run a small business and a non-profit. I am probably the poorest person posting on this site but still middle class. My IQ last tested in the 140s. I have a Computer Science degree with a minor in Electrical Engineering. I have been through 3 recessions in what was supposed to be the most productive earning years based on age and past demographics. I have been knocked down each time. I have a Sentra, Camry and Seinna all free and clear. I have put my daughter through private school and my son is going to the same school and will enter 9th grade. I have been moderately successful but nowhere near rich in my career or business ventures. I think I have it pretty good.

I guess I could work harder and try to expand my old business or take a salary for the non-profit and grow it to where I could enjoy a nice pay day but at 51 I am disinclined to put the effort in that I did in the past. Heck when this is over I may just get a job or Just Over Broke position.

I am at a point in my life after working six days a week for years on the above mentioned business that I am done chasing money and just want to enjoy my family and what life I have left.

I never said it would be hard nor have I EVER been tempted to take all the credit. We've been knocked down to our knees many times, we were just committed to getting back up. Most importantly, we enjoy what we do. Not all the time of course but certainly the majority.
