I often defer to what experts say within their fields of expertise.

It’s not a fool-proof strategy. But beginning with the assumption that I probably know less about a topic than someone who went to school for it and does it full-time is better than assuming that I know more than they do.

I really don't think you are aware of much outside the MSM.
