Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

After you listen to this Adam Gorney interview with Eli Holstein, you will realize that Napier & the Gators have NO chance at signing him !

According to Holstein, Saban & Bama's record of success - defined as developing QBs & getting them drafted in the 1st Round of NFL Draft, is so far beyond any other coach / team, that going anywhere else if Saban calls you is unthinkable !

If you don't believe this - LISTEN !

Is there any chance Manning goes to Bama?

Speaking of Saban & Bama QB recruiting, I found this Ronald Evans article in "BamaHammer" to be an interesting read.

"...Some fans have thought Saban might be slow-playing Holstein, preferring to land Manning. Saban may prefer Manning, but according to Alabama football insiders, Saban and Bill O’Brien (currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Alabama) are sold on Holstein’s potential to become an elite college quarterback. Holstein is believed to have a green light to commit as soon as he is ready."

As Napier found out with Nease QB Marcus Stokes, "slow playing" a recruit doesn't always work out.

Two Schools Standing Out in Arch Manning Recruitment, per Report

Per Madison Williams of Sports Illistrated

IMO, neither one of them was coming to G'ville. Manning never visited or said a word about the Gators; at least Holstein gave us an UOV.

Previously, the son of Cooper Manning and nephew of Peyton and Eli narrowed his college search down to six schools: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas. However, On3 reports that the Mannings have been focusing on two schools in particular: Georgia and Texas.

Hope its Texas ! LOL
Although, kicking Arch's butt in the WLOCP in Jacksonville would work for me.

4*QB Eli Holstein, was just predicted to sign with the Crimson Tide by 247Sports Alabama Insider Hank South.

https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/Eli-Holstein-at-Zachary-248229/CurrentExpertPredictions/

"So Bama obviously loves Eli Holstein. They're not going to basically wait around for Arch. They see Eli as a guy and they sound like they're going to zero in on him and make a hard push for him if you've got (head coach) Nick Saban calling him.

Corey Bender of Gators Online also reported that four-star quarterback Dylan Lonergan hasn’t heard from Florida since he visited last month.

IMG Academy OL Knijeah Harris Commits to the Florida Gators

Florida adds its first offensive line commit in the class of 2023, IMG Academy (Fla.) guard Knijeah Harris.
Harris, 6-foot-3, 327 pounds, started at left guard for IMG Academy as a sophomore and junior.

2023 athlete Creed Whittemore says yes to the hometown Gators

https://www.on3.com/teams/florida-g...d-whittemore-says-yes-to-the-hometown-gators/

At 5-11, 177 lbs with good speed, Creed is more of the slot, flanker type receiver which UF needs.

He is also an excellent QB. During the 2021 season, Whittemore completed 116-of-195 passes for 2,101 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also racked up 763 yards and eight additional scores on the ground, averaging 7.1 yards per carry.

With QB ability like this, don't be surprised if/when Billy Napier pulls out a gadget play.

We've had a harder time getting juco's to school because of higher admissions standards - nice to get a guy in with 3 years left.

Always nice to get the family connection.

It got me to thinking, how many brothers have we had both to play at UF in modern times(circa 90's)? Also how many times did Lil Bro have the more successful season.

Just off the top of my head I remember(I'm sure their are tons more) Jeff/Clint Mitchell
Willie/Terry Jackson
Quincy/Marco Wilson
Ray Snell Jr/Shannon Snell

Clint had a successful UF career and made it to the pros but Jeff definitely had the more decorated career. Willie and Terry is a toss up. Both had decorated careers at UF and made it to the pros. Personally I'd give Terry the slight nod but if one said Willie I could see the point. Quincy was better than Marco but Marco was a good player. However Marco's legacy will ALWAYS be the shoe toss. Little bro Shannon had the more decorated UF career vs big bro Ray but Ray had that unsung position of fullback but Shannon was an All American and made it to the NFL.

Not that this has anything to think the younger Whittemore will be better than the big bro. It was just something I thought about. I'm glad we will have both. Trent is an athletic guy and plays hard. I hope so bad he has a complete injury free season this upcoming season.

Oh sure there are some that make it in. There seems to be a lower percentage though making it into UF than our counterparts is all.
If it's like it used to be years ago UF required transferring JUCOs to enter as a Junior with a passing CLAST exam score I think. Not sure the rules at UF now though.

I think he's part of the 23 class for scholly purposes - not sure when/if he shows up to class prior to that.
Justin Jefferson is not showing anywhere on our commit list - not that I can find. All I can find is that he's gotten offers from Florida, South Carolina, Colorado St., Arkansas St., Virginia Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, Western KY, Alcorn St., Jacksonville St. and several others. But doesn't seem that he's made a decision yet.

Manning told On3 Texas, UGA, & Bama are all under consideration, and he’s "planning" visits to see both LSU and Florida.

“I’ve had a few conversations with Florida. I’ve heard a lot of good things about [head] coach [Billy] Napier, so I "might" want to get check [sic] and see what they’re all about.”

Eli Holstein, who is in the middle of Alabama's plans for next year's class, has altered the Crimson Tide's pursuit of No. 1 overall player Arch Manning. BamaOnLine recruiting analyst Hank South predicts where Holstein and Manning may land.

South projects Holstein to be the Crimson Tide's quarterback in 2023.

If you listen to his vid; you know it won't be UF; Holstein very high on Bama.

"I think things are trending a little bit more in favor of Texas and Georgia for Arch Manning," South said.

On Thursday’s edition of The Block, 247Sports analyst Blake Brockermeyer explained why he thinks the Longhorns would have an edge over Georgia in Manning's recruitment.

“I think he’s going to go to Texas,” Brockermeyer said. “I think Texas is somewhere where he can create his own special legacy.

What a surprise the top 3 is three of the top four or five college teams with the biggest NIL so far. Even when your extended family has a lot of money you want your own. I am still not that enamored with his tape but maybe he will look better and thrive in college though.

We were never in the running for him, but FYI -
Clemson added its second commitment in as many days on Wednesday evening with a pledge from Cypress (Texas) Bridgeland four-star tight end Reid Mikesk.

Once you commit to Clemson & Dabo Sweeney, you stop taking visits or he releases you from your commitment, so I doubt he takes his OV here in G'ville.

EDIT
OOPS ! Excuse me this IS College Football Recruiting - just noticed on his rivals page that his commit to Clemson ended yesterday, maybe.

Maybe he visits Gators after all; I guess this is the sort of clear, incisive, thinking you expect from a 17 yr old.

Max Brown - UF's next Hidden gem ?

Interesting Article by Ethan Hughes

“He totally took the game over, and Jones is a very prestigious program in Oklahoma,” Woods said. “He physically took over the game with his rushing abilities and brought the team back and led us to a win. That’s when I knew we had something special because, when things were bad, he came through. You just saw a competitive side of him just saying that he’s got this.”

Brown didn’t take over the starting job for a couple of more weeks after that, but he quickly established himself as the type of player that rises to the occasion in crunch time. His coaches described him as the type of player who is so mentally tough that he can almost will his team to victory at times.

“Especially in crunch-time situations, he’s a guy that you can rely on, just his mental approach to the game,” Woods said. “He’s not going to be denied is kind of the attitude that he has. He’s got a fighter attitude, and he’s his best when things are tough.”

https://www.gatorcountry.com/feature/max-brown-the-gators-next-hidden-gem/

A very well thought out and written article, looks like I might have written it.... (I wish) 😉

"So, Brown has gaudy statistics, athleticism, a track record of helping his teams win at a high level and an NFL bloodline. What’s not to like, right?"

"And yet, the final 247Sports Composite rankings had 95 quarterbacks ranked ahead of him. His only college offers were from Central Michigan, Temple, Washington and Florida." (see the Trask offer list)

This is why in part, that the iG takes recruit rankings with a grain of salt. i.e. Heisman Finalist Trask was rated as a HS 2 star, with good size and 17 TD's to ZERO Ints....

Let me hear from his and our coaches, and let me watch his film and review his stats. Recruiting services have their opinions, but that's all they are,,, their opinions, and they have a whole list of biased modifiers that form their opinions.

I'd actually love to see Max be a 2 sport star at UF, if he's was so inclined. O'Sul could use some more help.... And the ole iG has been driving the Brown Bandwagon since he committed....

I really like landing Brown. Those stats are eye popping regardless of where he played.
When I watch film, I also look at the other team for size/skill makeup. Sometimes the opponents on a highlight reel look like Jr High players.

The above highlight film of Max is not like that, and they look size and skills competitive.

In the iG's own rating system, I'm rating QBdt Max
*****.....
And I would honestly rather have him than Arch, but that's me...

They demolished a bunch of bad teams and struggles to score against the only two good teams they faced last year, including in the playoffs.

you could also argue that the talent in Oklahoma isn't nearly on par with the talent in Louisiana.

Eli Holstein & LSU

Things are heating up in LSU’s search for a quarterback prospect in the 2023 class, and it seems that Zachary, Louisiana, recruit Eli Holstein may be the top target.

Holstein was on campus for an unofficial visit this past Saturday, and he returned to Baton Rouge for yet another visit on Monday, according to On3’s Sam Spiegelman.

Holstein has already set an official visit to Alabama — for June 10-12, and he said he will likely be taking official visits to LSU and Oregon, as well.

Arch Manning confirmed he will be taking his official visits to three schools in June.

Five-star quarterback Arch Manning confirmed to 247Sports that he will be taking official visits to Georgia (June 4), Alabama (June 11) and Texas (June 18) this summer.

https://fansided.com/2022/05/21/arch-manning-official-visits-georgia-alabama-texas/

With the Eli Holstein commit, doubt that Arch ends up at Bama.

Quinn Ewers is already at Texas & will have a season to take over as QB1.

QB Jaden Rashada OV to Gators - June 7

On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Florida is trending for QB Jaden Rashada

https://www.on3.com/teams/florida-g...ine-florida-is-trending-for-qb-jaden-rashada/

It is unknown when Manning will officially commit, as for the most part his recruitment is very close to the chest, but Texas is seemingly attempting to pull out all the stops to secure his commitment. Their pursuit of former Duke head coach David Cutcliffe, who coached both of his uncles, to join the staff makes it obvious Texas is all in on Manning.

They will likely need to show major improvement on the field in 2022 to help their case.

The thing about texas is that they’re one of those schools where ut almost seems inevitable that at some point they’ll be back no matter how bad they get. Ohio st is another. USC. Oklahoma. we’re one too… it just seems like they just need to hand the keys to the right guy. I especially don’t see them watching what aTm has done and not stepping up their game as well. Plus isn’t Ewers a year ahead? It’s not like teams don’t want an elite QB in every class so I can’t see that being a problem. I honestly don’t see why any top tier QB would consider uga at this point. They’ve run off more 5* QBs than most schools get, and they won bc of their defense and a really, really favorable schedule, not bc if their PWO QB. He might still go to bama. That’s a baller move. But Texas makes sense.

Manning Photo Op at UGA goes Viral

Manning to UGA would not surprise me !

A lot of talent in the photo below. Don't know if Kirby will win another recruiting NATTIE - may not have as much cash as Jimbo & aTm, but it could happen.

UGA QB1 is up for grabs - Stetson Bennet leaves after this season & Dawgs have a talented returning roster.

A positive if Arch to Athens happens is that we will have the opportunity to give him the same lumps SOS gave Peyton while he was at Tennessee - 0 for 4 !

Arch - OV to UGA

So damn tired of hearing about Arch!!!!!!!

Jadan Rashada still on campus but unless something radical happens he is leaving today before all the weekend visitors arrive

Several websites mention a Rashada post visit interview.

This teaser from Corey Bender writing for On3 - "The Gators knocked it out of the park during Jaden Rashada's official visit."
Who knows ?
EDIT
I thought that UF was Rashada's last visit before his commitment on June 18th; I was wrong.

247Sports' Greg Biggins states that Jaden Rashada will visit Texas A&M and LSU before his commitment later this month.
If Rashada still scheduling visits, his OV to UF more of a ground rule double instead of a home run !
Or, he will push his commit date back.

Rashada (& Arch) are the last 4/5* QBs available in this year's class. His recruiting likely to stretch out while he compares NIL offers.

Always last minute changes but these are the hoped for June 10th OV.

Florida Gators 2023 Official Visits Preview: June 10-12

One visit starting early
Defensive lineman Peter Woods
arrived in Gainesville on Thursday for his official visit as he and his family prefer to have their visits run from Thursday-Saturday because Woods’ father is a pastor, and he likes to attend the visits with his son. Woods will be on campus for the first time under Napier, but the Alabama native has been building a relationship with defensive line coach Sean Spencer. While it’s going to be tough to get Woods out of Alabama, the Gators are hoping to make up ground this weekend.

If they've watched AR-15 6-4 237 So, play as a Gator....

And if they've watched QB-dt Max Browns 6-3 200 Fr HS film and his stat line....
2021: Oklahoma District 3-3A MVP as a 13-1 senior.
Accounted for 4,000+ total yards, 61 TD's to just 5 TO's (4 Ints, 1 LPF).

I don't believe that Arch or Rashada 6-4 180 want to come here to try to compete for a tFr starters job.... Are either willing to sit and bide their time while learning?
IMO, Arch ain't coming (which is jus-fine wid-me), but I don't know what the personal confidence level is for Rashada.
If he comes here, he'd best be ready and able to compete, or wait....

Corey Bender joined Nick De La Torre & Zach Abolverdi in an online podcast focused on Jaden Rashada's recruiting. One of the comments, if I understood them correctly, is that if UF doesn't get a commit from Rashada, their QB options are extremely limited.

QB recruiting is heavily front end loaded, contact starting as a HS Soph is common. Napier had little opportunity with most of the QBs he pursued, even the ones he got on campus, because of the lack of contact early in the recruit's decision cycle.

CASE IN POINT - Rashada played at IMG 2 years ago; here is a link to a 14 minute video he made when he was a Freshman.

Jaden Rashada 2020 Interview and Highlights

The question being, if the Gators strike out on Rashada where do we go from there.

One of the studio hosts brought up Marcus Stokes (Nease HS commit to Penn State) & Corey basically shot that down, saying that Napier's attempt to slow play him (Gators never offered him) makes going back to him impossible at this point. Bender didn't know if they would try the transfer portal again (Miller time not working out IMO) or just go without a QB in this class & start working for the future.

Just as you have coach speak, obviously we now have recruit speak where the more experienced & highly rated recruits will say something positive about the school they are currently visiting and deflect most questions about what they are really thinking.

Only option might be a Florida player who "blows up" in his Sr year & who hasn't had coaches chasing him for 3 years.

Jaden Rashada Interviews following his UF OV

Rashada, is practicing Recruit Speak in these interviews; he is keeping his thoughts to himself.

As for his other most recent officials, Rashada had a lot of praise for the school that kicked things off — Texas A&M — before acknowledging that his LSU trip was similar to the Gainesville trek thanks to his tight-knit relationship with the Tigers' coaching staff.

"It was real good. They got something pretty good building out there," Rashada said of the Aggies. "And, you know, maybe they're a trigger-man away, but they made a real good impression on me and my family. That was a real good, valuable trip."

Hefty NIL offer ?

aTm & Jimbo (8-4; 4-4 SEC), after their last recruiting class set an all time record, has more talent on their roster than either LSU or the Gators.

LSU & Kelly (6–7; 3–5 SEC), IMO, pretty similar to Napier & Gators (6-7; 2-6 SEC); both are rebuilding.

I'm not holding my breath for Rashada; easier to post links & let you read for yourself.

Yep NIL will determine where a lot of these top recruits go. You will need to be in the area of the top offer at least.

Rashada & aTM

He was also particularly fond of the Aggies' head coach, Jimbo Fisher, after getting to spend extensive one-on-one time with him for the first time while on campus.

"Its pretty cool just seeing how he coaches and how he treats his players and stuff like that." Rashada said.

After all, Rashada called the Aggies a 'dream offer' after the scholarship was extended during a recent Elite 11 qualifier in Las Vegas.

"Playing the biggest football, just that crowd and being in Texas is a unique opportunity," Rashada said last month. "It's something to try to make the most of, so that's kind of why I called it that."

Hoping that these quotes from Rashada about aTm are taken out of context; but don't have a good feeling about Rashada & Gators.

We'll see; June 18th close if he keeps his original commit decision time line.

Sounding like NIL will be the decision maker.

Ryan Day just straight up told their boosters it will take at least 13 million in NIL to keep the same roster.

Rashada is believed to be the first high school football player in the country to sign a NIL deal, a four-figure contract with AIR (Athletes in Recruitment), which describes its product as a "three-sided digital platform that's a cross between Linkedin and a dating app, but for college recruiting."

Per Knijeah Harris -
IMG Academy (Fla.) offensive lineman and current Florida commit Knijeah Harris has been trying to recruit many of the prospects he has come into contact with during his OV.

A little bit of help from the inside of the locker room never hurts !

“[I’m] really just pushing Jaden right now as he’s committing soon,” Harris said as Rashada’s imminent decision on June 18 rapidly approaches.

He also mentioned his contact with highly regarded prospect Arch Manning, who he said would be unofficially visiting Gainesville “later this month.”

"Already choosing UF as his future collegiate home, Harris slipped on his recruiting cap in an attempt to surround himself with elite talent at the next level during his multi-day stay in Gainesville."

“That's something I wanted to do personally, that's why I committed early, to get guys to jump in the boat. You know, because having a great recruiting class benefits me as well gets more eyes on me on the field. If I have a good quarterback, you know, stuff like that. So it helps out the team and myself.”
