Coincidentally, shooting to wound will get you in trouble, assuming you were dumb enough to try it. If you use deadly force it better be justified. If you admit that you only wanted to wound then your use of deadly force instantly comes into question.
Also, that wouldn't be an easy thing to do.
Btw, under duress, hit rates may be as low as 18% in actual Law Enforcement gun fights. IMO that number is more than likely about ~30%.

BamaFan1137, I'm ambidextrous and ambipedal. On my bucket list is the firing range and shooting a pistol left. I've always fired a pistol right because everyone else does. In the Air Force I always qualified right with a carbine lying prone because everyone else did. Imagine upsetting the others lying prone left and out of step with the others.

It varies state to state but in Alabama we must qualify from various distance with our dominant hand and then with your left hand only and right hand only from 7 yards (iirc it's 7 yards).
I'm right handed and right eye dominant but I practice shooting left handed for the "oh $h!t" moment.
Btw, we must qualify annually as well.

Handedness is not genetic. OU junior granddaughter is ambidextrous. The Great Father decides which side of the body the brain favors. At daughter's ranch Saturday, granddaughter and I both determined we were best throwing darts right. Best at shuffle board left.
Clint Eastwood is ambidextrous. On film he usually throws left and always a pistol right. Pretty much what I do. He threw a baseball left to Amy Adams in the baseball movie. Had lunch with Amy Adams with a fork right. What I would do.
