Football The only positive I got

My guy DD has been out there getting a lot of reps the last few weeks and is playing well. Very happy for the young man, despite how terrible we look overall. Glad he’s getting a chance to fulfill his dreams. Hell of a young man who has come so far! Thankful to @bblake08 and the guys for taking good care of him and his family.

Sucks we are down so bad but as always, Go Gators!!

Football Is it Bad Timing?

Acknowledging hindsight is 20/20, is Florida a victim of really bad timing? Recent history as I understand it:

1. Dan Mullen is an offensive football coach whose game plan was based upon the players’ strengths. I still don’t understand what took him so long to replace Franks with Trask. It seemed he convinced himself that he could succeed with any players and put recruiting on the back burner.

2. The University’s focus is on creating one of the best public colleges in the nation. They succeed.

3. The UAA wants to do things the “right way” while our rivals embrace pay for play schemes well before NIL.

4. As a result of number 3, Mullen gets increasingly frustrated. He realizes regardless how great of a coach he thinks he is, he can’t keep up with the Bamas and Georgias. He starts to look at NFL opportunities.

5. Mullen mentally checks out. We can’t talk about pay for play publicly, and so, we believe that we can’t keep up with recruiting as a result of outdated facilities and poor infrastructure.

6. We learn Mullen is lazy and disinterested.

7. High net-worth boosters were told to invest tremendous amounts of money into facilities in order to get to a level playing field. They agree and commit large amounts of money JUST before the NIL era.

8. Meanwhile, Mullen wouldn’t fire his friends. He checked out. He was lazy and didn’t prioritize recruiting. Mullen is fired. The opposite type of coach becomes available - enter Billy Napier. He doesn’t vacation. He does not stop thinking about football. He is constantly planning. He is a CEO. He values infrastructure and learned how to build it after working for Saban. He embraces recruiting. He is authentic and genuine. Scared money don’t make money leads us to believe he’s a man with a plan who isn’t afraid to take calculated risks.

9. Money is poured into the facilities and infrastructure. The boosters were all on-board. We are all-in on recruiting.

10. Billy Napier is hired.

11. We open new facilities at the same time (2021-2022) college football becomes the Wild Wild West with NIL. Unfortunately, the recruiting game changed.

12. Pay for play is now done in the open even though most collectives are learning on the fly. The schools that were previously doing things behind the scenes have an easier time adjusting.

13. Recruits/Portal players care less about facilities, and more about how much are they going to get paid.

14. The infrastructure and facilities the boosters just invested in are less important to securing a recruit. (All else being equal - money and on-field success - the facilities can be a tiebreaker).

15. Fans unfamiliar with the actual financial transactions of the boosters complain that the boosters are unwilling to compete with other school’s boosters while not acknowledging all the money they had recently JUST invested. These same boosters who are asked to contribute to NIL are shrewd business people asked to contribute to players who haven’t proven anything and have no guarantee of a return on investment. Perhaps greater risk would be taken if so much money hadn’t just been dumped into the university.

16. When Billy Napier is considering the UF job, we are told that he reached out to his friend and confidant, Jim McElwain. Is it really any surprise that history has repeated itself?

17. The game has changed. Nick Saban recognized that NIL was going to create a more level playing field. Before his reputation could be tarnished, he dipped out. He could foresee the new direction of college football.

18. Billy Napier was late. He was going to build what worked in 2010. It no longer works.

19. As fans we make lots of assumptions when we don’t have all the facts. We assume we aren’t going after the best players in the portal. Maybe we are. Maybe we are even offering as much $ as anyone else. All else being equal, right now, are you sending your kid to UF over UGA? It’s so easy to negatively recruit UF right now.

20. Here’s my assumption why we aren’t good - it’s the players. Coaches can’t come out and publicly blame the players. So, we get coach-speak. We expect top 10 results but we don’t have have a top 10 roster. We are in a deep hole.

21. I’ve listened to many people who know much more about football than I do criticize Billy Napier’s coaching decisions. I’m not saying he is without blame. He’s stubborn. Never had success as an OC. The problems seem obvious. However, great players can make good coaches better. Did Bill Belichick forget how to coach? Did Dabo Sweeney forget how to coach? The list of coaches who succeed and then don’t goes on and on. It’s the players. We had the players when Urban was here. He left when he knew we didn’t have the players anymore. We haven’t recovered.

22. It takes GREAT players and GOOD coaching to get where we want to be. A successful college football coach has to be good at football and great at sales.

So, who is to blame for where we are? Who actually started the domino effect that lead to the current state of UF football? Whose job was it to see this coming before it happened? The athletic director? The president? That’s where the negative attention should go if you need to place blame. Or, is Florida just a victim of bad timing? Either way, get great players. Mario coached a better game - but they had Cam Ward and better players on both lines of scrimmage. It’s the players.

Football The issue nobody is talking about…

In 2021 LSU, USC, Miami, and UF all had coaching searches. Oregon too after Cristobal was for sure going back home to UM.

LSU, USC, and Miami decided they were going to get ahead of NIL and the transfer by making a splash hire with a proven HC. However, SS decides to take another “up and comer” hoping he turns into the next Spurrier or Urban. Elite recruits didn’t know Billy and he is trying to play catch up.

Now we’re so far behind, and if/when we fire Billy, we’ll be even further behind after our roster is purged at the end of the season. I fear we’ll be so far behind there is no chance we catch up.

Unless we make the splash hire of own, and unfortunately there are few options, I fear UF will be stuck in purgatory even longer.

I beg for our boosters to have SS fired now! His priorities are upgrading our stadium instead of NIL being #1 #2 and #3 priority. Nobody gives a shit about a stadium if we’re not winning! We need a splash…and if we don’t hire Kiffin then go get Urban back! We’re the University of Florida! Stop hiring G5 coaches and get a proven winner!

Football Chat GPT predicts Napier press conference after loss to Texas AM

In a hypothetical scenario where Florida loses to Texas A&M under head coach Billy Napier, his press conference would likely focus on addressing areas for improvement while staying positive about the team's potential. Here's a possible breakdown:

1. **Acknowledging the Loss**: Napier would probably start by giving credit to Texas A&M, acknowledging their strong performance, but he’d emphasize areas where Florida fell short, such as execution, discipline, or missed opportunities.

- "First, credit to Coach and Texas A&M, they played a great game today. But we made some mistakes, and at this level, you can't afford to make those."

2. **Team's Effort**: Napier would emphasize the effort of his players, likely praising their resilience and commitment, despite the outcome.

- "I’m proud of our guys for how hard they fought. We’ve got a group of players who care, and they left it all out there."

3. **Improvement Areas**: He would likely zero in on specific areas that need work, such as penalties, turnovers, or execution on key plays. He tends to emphasize fundamentals and discipline in his coaching philosophy.

- "We have to clean up our mistakes. Whether it's penalties, turnovers, or not finishing drives, those are things that cost us today. We’ll get back to work on the fundamentals."

4. **Staying the Course**: Napier would likely mention staying focused on the process, as he frequently talks about long-term goals and continuous improvement.

- "We’ve got to trust the process, keep grinding, and learn from this. We’ll use this as motivation to get better every day."

5. **Looking Ahead**: He would likely end the press conference on a forward-looking note, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back in the coming games.

- "We’ve got a resilient team, and I know we’ll respond the right way. This is just one game, and we’ll be ready for next week."

In this situation, Napier would likely strike a balance between accountability and optimism, focusing on building toward future success.

Football What 3 keys win this game for UF Saturday??

For me it is:

3rd down D, get off the friggin field- TAMU sits 62nd with opponents converting on 33%, while UF sits 106 with opponents converting 44% on 3rd down

RZ scoring, we need to punch in the end zone when inside the 20's...- TAMU sits 52nd while converting on 89% of their RZ trips, UF sits 110th while converting on 71% of our RZ trips

Turnovers...we need to stop the TAMU run and make Weigman throw, he is prone to turn it over as we watched against ND...we must apply pressure Saturday and not give him time like Ward had in game 1!!

Let me know your thoughts,

Heisman

New Story My in game notes (vent prefix)

Fla is the girl u love but doesn’t love u back

If Napier stays I will have the best looking yard in the neighborhood next year cause I can’t do this to myself anymore

If we somehow win…yeah we won but it’s like if u banged a chick that said u had a small wiener. Yeah u had sex so that’s awesome but she just destroyed ur pride for life so it still feels like an L

Being a Fla fan…This HAS to be what a pron fluffer goes thru mentally. Yeah, u get to be around people having a good time but ur the one that only gets to touch penis so it’s always an f’ed up day

WWLD-what would lane do

Do I have enough liquor to forget we played today?

Weather delay and we still found a way to give up third and long

Will their qb move up on the heisman watch list

New Story Raw and Unedited Instant Analysis: Texas A&M @ Florida

Raw and Unedited Instant Analysis: Texas A&M @ Florida

1st Quarter:

Aggies on the opening drive with a backup QB went 2-2 on third downs all the way down to the UF 12 and another 3rd down this time third and 9 and a TD but UF catches a break on the Aggies hold….UF bailed out on the hold that time forcing an even longer 3rd down call it 3rd and 19 now with 8:55 to go in the first from the UF 21-yard line. Pass down to the 12 yard line and Aggies come away with three points on the opening drive of the game for the Aggies. 3-0 with 8:29 to play in the first quarter.

Here comes the Gators and Graham Mertz 1st and 10 from the UF 35-yard line. 8:14 to play. Carry up the guy with MJ and no gain. And as you all see now Tre Wilson is out for today. No surgery needed but will not see Tre today. Hayden Hansen for a first down Gators at the UF 48-yard line. 7:20 to play in the first quarter. MJ up the gut again for about three or so. 2nd and 7 now for the Gators. And mix up in the backfield with Mertz and MJ and loss of about 6 so a big 3rd and 13 for the Gators on UFs opening drive from the UF 45 yard line. Mertz had Burke wide open great effort by Burke but real high and can’t come down with it so punt time for the Gators.

Aggies ball at the 20-yard line with 5:40 to play in the first quarter – flag down on the play running into the kicker only five yards though so another kick coming for the Gators. 1st and 10 from the Aggies 8-yard line and the D needs a quick three and out. Horrible tackling by the Gators and Moss bounces all the way up to the 35 yard line for 27-yards and a first down Aggies. Moss again for about two yards making it 2nd and 8 with 4:30 to go. Pass no gain good tackle in open space by Shemar James. And again 3rd and long, 8 this time and easy first down by the Aggies all the way to the UF 45. Another run for two yards this time, 2nd and 9 and Coach Kline calling a nice game early on for the Aggies. EJ Smith for a run of about one yard so here we go again a 3rd and long again for the Aggies can the Gators hold, this time? Call it 3rd and 5 – under 2 to go in the first – pass for about 2 yards…..Punt time for the Aggies, nope, going for it on 4th and 5 from the UF 38 or so – HUGE PLAY – PI on the Gators – holding by S. Denson and that is another first down for the Aggies – great call by the umpire. 1st and 10 from the UF 25 or so – QB draw no gain, Denson nice tackle and a flag down illegal shift on Aggies so 1st and 15 – Run for about four yards tackle by Boone. 2nd and 11 – Total yard so far 146 to 10 – and TD pass Aggies…10-0 Texas A&M.

2nd and 12 to start the second quarter for Lagway and the Gators. Now we are under a weather delay - 1st play of the first series for Lagway was a handoff to MJ and TFL to get to the 2nd and 12 -
2nd Quarter:

DJ Scramble short gain and a 3rd and 11 for Lagway now – HUGE sack down to the UF 10-yard line Punt Time

2nd Quarter:

Aggies ball at the 40-yard line – 1st and 10 – heavy pressure by the interior DL and Marshall throws it away – 2nd and 10 – Moss off LT for about 6 yards and another third down – and another first down Aggies at the UF 42 or so 1st and 10- 188 ayrds to -7 right now. Run for about ten yards by the FR running through the UF D and the OL is bullying the Gators DL right now. 1st and 10 – actually call it 2nd and 1 – shot run but a first down Aggies from the UF 30-yard line. 1st and 10 – Flag on the play looks like movement on the Offense and 1st and 15 – Run for about three yards. 2nd and 12 – deep shot no one in the area. 3rd and 11 and this would be a KILLER if the Aggies pick this up and UF blitzing from all over the place – should have been a pick by Marshall but the Gators force a long FG try – up away and the 48 yard FG is good. 13-0 Aggies with 9:47 to play

1st and 10 Gators – Mertz back on the field for UF down 13-0. Here comes the rain in The Swamp – Mertz hits Dike with a big gain all the way down to the Aggies 39 – after the 39 yard pickup back to Dike for a gain of 3 or so and rain really coming down now. 2nd and 7 – Flags down – motion on UF – 2nd and 12 or so. Almost picked off with heavy DL pressure up the middle. 3rd and 12 – Dike no gain and 4th and long – DC Jay Bateman dialed it up….Punt Team on the field for the Gators…
Great punt and coverage to the Aggies 1 yard line. 1st and 10 Aggies with 8:07 to play until the half – QB sneak no gain it looked like. Moss right up the gut for a huge gain again up to the Aggies 26. Moss runs for about four yards always pushing the pile forwards. 2nd and 5 and they have four plays already for more than 20 yards……230-36 total yards right now – another first down to the UF 40-yard line nice run again. OL bullying the Gators DL early and often. 1st and 10 – another 15 yard run and a first down. 1st and 10 at the UF 42---QB keeper for about two. 2nd and 8 now….EJ smith for a run and a first down Aggies.

1st and 10 Aggies from the UF 33 yard line and 14 first downs Aggies UF has 2 --- EJ Smith for about 4, 2nd and 6 – Run up the guy for about two and now a HUGE 3rd and about 5 with under 2:40 to play until half time – Gators NEED a huge stop right here – QB keeper and run for about 4 looks like 4th and about 1 maybe with two minute time out.

Here we go two minutes to go until half and they call it 4th and one yard from the UF 22-yard line – Aggies trying to end this game right now and they will go for it and the way they are running right at the UF D not surprised – First down up the middle about a four yard gain. 1st and 10 from the UF 18 – Moss around left end for a few but a flag down and a holding on Aggies. 1st and 10 now – with 1:26 to go until half – now they have added a personal foul on the Aggies so now it looks like a 1st and 35 WOW. I mean if they score on this drive not sure what to say. Moss for about four or so…

2nd and about 31 for the Aggies lol wow…42 plays for the Aggies and 12 for the Gators in the first half – INSANE --- pass for about two yards. 3rd and 29 – Timeout Gators ---- and they ruled targeting and unfortunately by rule that is a good call…1st and 10 Aggies from the UF 24 yard line or so --- incomplete and another flag down and should be on Wingo holding…..Aggies BULLY the Gators down to the one yard line….1st and Goal 15th play of this drive over seven minutes long and right up the gut for a TD, 20-0 Aggies on the one yard rushing TD with 44 seconds left until half --99-yard 16 play drive

DJ back out with the offense -- :52 seconds to play – 302 – 36 total yards…..out of bounds to Boardingham and another flag down – holding on Barber, 1st and 20 – no timeouts – Webb with a tough 15 or so yard run. 2nd and 6 – Pass to Arliss for about five yards and out of bounds – 3rd and 2 – 18 seconds to go – Webb with a ten yard run and clock at 12 seconds from the UF 45 – clocked it so 2nd and 10 – incomplete pass to Arliss and 7 seconds left until a miserable first half ends – boo birds are OUT big time right now in The Swamp – underneath to Arliss again for about 7 and 3 seconds left and 4th and two from the 50 – interception on the endzone….20-0 Aggies

And after Mertz takes UF down the field for the first TD of the game for the Gators the Aggies hit on a 73 yard pass play and a TD and no good on the two point try so 26-7 Aggies and I go back with Mertz if I am Napier after his last drive..

Baugh out of the endzone to the UF 25 or so. Aggies have LOST ten straight road games fyi for those keeping score…..1st and 10 Gators and it is DJ at QB so just rotating by series DJ under pressure throws high and incomplete had a guy but under lots of pressure running around…2nd and 10 –MJ up the guy no gain and where is Baugh? 3rd and long for the Gators with no chemistry on offense – DJ sacked he has to let the ball go or break the pocket…MJ did not help out on the chip block…

1st and 10 at the Aggies 25-yard line Aggies ball 3rd QT – QB Keeper for nine yards stop by TJ Searcy – 2nd and 1 – scramble first down Aggies at the 35 or so 1st and 10 – oops 2nd and 8 that was a first down last play – end around for about four so another chance for the D to get off the field on 3rd and four – under 7:30 in the 3rd QT – incomplete and punt time UF brought pressure with Denson off the edge..

1st punt for the Aggies with 7 minutes left in the 3rd that is not good for the Gators. UF ball at around the UF 10 yard line 1st and 10 and Mertz should be back on the field for the Gators and it is Mertz --- Mertz with a strike on a deep end route from Mertz and a big first down at the UF 35 – MG run no gain lost a yard or so. 2nd and 11 – Webb fell down but ended up making a nice run and a first down nice gain and fell down on his own. Checking the review to see if Webb was down in the backfield and he was down left knee was down so another loss on a run for the Gators…and here comes a 3rd and 14 - 3rd and 14 with 5:57 left in the 3rd and Mertz is 8/10 and a TD for a little over a 100-yards - offsides by Aggies free play and Mertz had Spierto?? Wide open why is he in the game?? So another 3rd down this time 3rd and 9 – tipped picked off and pick six ball game boys and girls….that is not on Mertz that was clear…

Aggies up now 33-7 with 5:29 to play --- 1st and 10 Gators after another nice return from Baugh….timeout….1st and 10 Lagway in over throws Dike and flag out late deep in the Aggies secondary PI 15 yards….1st and 10 at the UF 40 or so..Tank Hawkins on an end around for a couple of yards…2nd and 5 and now review for targeting call potentially – and another player ejected – now 1st and 10 Gators at the Aggies 37 – Lagway to Arliss for about 8 or so. 2nd and 2 – under 4:30 to play – and UF helped out on this drive because of flags on the Aggies – there goes Baugh up the gut for a first down run of about four. 1st and 10 from the Aggies 24 – yard line – Lagway RPO he HAS to pitch the ball to Baugh but kept it gain of one maybe.. Spierto still in the game at WR – that tells you how bad the WR room is no offense to him! 2nd and 9 – throws one to Hansen WAY overthrown slipped out of his hand I think – 3rd and 9 – BAUGH was WIDE OPEN underneath with space to run – he has to see that --- overthrow again to Mizell…4th and 9 and Lags been way off this game – UF going for it – shallow cross to Livingston for a first down….Webb straight ahead for a few but flag down – on the Aggies – 1st and 5 Gators from the Aggies 7 – looking for Hansen way overthrown and he had other options…2nd and Goal from the 7 – NO gain for Webb so 3rd and 7 actually 3rd and 5 from the 7- Wide Open Dike in the endzone for the TD…

33-14 Aggies….Mertz and Lagway each with TD passes in the 3rd QT – 1st and 10 Aggies form the 25 with 1:04 left to play in the quarter – Moss for about ten or nine yards or so. 1st and 10 -Moss for about four up the gut…end of the third QT 409 to 207 total yards Aggies over the Gators heading to the 4th. Aggies will hit 500 + this game

START OF THE 4TH

Another first down for the Aggies – 1st and 10 – Another five yard run on first down for the Aggies brings up 2nd and about 5 – EJ Smith run no gain – 3rd and 5 – QB Keeper and you guessed it first down – Aggies bleeding the clock another rrun for about 6 yards to the UF 34 yard line. Moss another run for a first down. 1st and 10 Aggies with 261 rushing yards and UF has 22 rushing yards…run no gain on first down. 2nd and 10 – run for about 6 – so here we go another 3rd down and 4 – and 93 is down - 3rd and 4 Aggies – Nice tackle by Cam Jackson no gain. 4th and 4 – FG Try – up away and no good. 33-14 still..

1st and 10 Gators at the 25 – Jakobi Jackson for a run of about 10 or so and they are actually turning this game off and putting the Dawgs on…Mertz with a nice pass to Badger and another first down. 1st an 10 Gators from the UF 45 – to Arliss for about 6 so call it 2nd and 4 – another pass to Badger and another first down Gators from the Aggies 38 – pass to Boardingham to the Aggies 20 1st and 10 Gators – Jackson down to about the ten yard line 1st and 10 Gators – it was 2nd and 1 and now a 1st and G Gators – under 5:30 to play – Mertz HAMMERED going for the TD run but went out of bounds at the Aggies one and they changed games lol

2nd and 6 Aggies at the UF 27—Keeper for about four or so. 3rd down and about 3 second TO for the Gators – Keeper no gain – 4th and 3 – UF 3rd TO with 3:41 to play – and the FG is up and away and no good. 33-20 Gators ball with 3:41 to play --

DJ gets this series and to Badger for a first down – and Lagway with a horrible throw and the pick…
