Who did I miss?

Football Tebow Comments

He basically says that our team doesn't have the edge needed to fight. We see it every weekend. Your team takes on the personality of their coach. I have said for a while that he is too nice. Always trying to make everybody happy. Never getting pissed and holding people accountability. He is not made for this high level of a job. Still, I would make him coach the entire season and suffer from the mess he made.

Coaching Contracts

Why don’t ADs work a regression clause into coaching contracts. “If your team record gets worse year two and three, you are not eligible for the buyout and may be let go free and clear”. Or “If by year 3 you have a sub 500 record, you are not eligible for a buyout.”

Good confident coaches would be comfortable signing this agreement. Why hire someone that is afraid of clear expectations?

Football Donor comments in SDS article

One donor noted Florida’s championship drought, which dates back to 2008 and now spans 5 head coaches, saying that “when the time comes, we will be going after a proven power conference coach first and foremost.”

The other donor added that Florida’s customary approach of hiring a young up and comer appears to have failed the football program for the third time in the past 4 hires.

“As a university, we have tried the young names with great recordsbut no power conferenceexperience. It doesn’t work in this era of the sport.
If and when weare ready, this search will be for a premier and proven name. We are in the Alabama ’06/’07 mode. They made a commitment to hiring a proven winner. That’s what the University of Florida will do, to the extent we can influence things.”

My Idea for a Coaching Search

We hear about schools hiring search firms to assist with the hiring of their next coach. Instead of hiring an outside firm, I think UF should try to get Urban and Saban to work together as a search committee for our next coach and pay them a consulting fee to help. Both of them are proven winners who have been around a lot of coaches so between the two of them, they should be able to help us identify the next leader of our program. Something tells me that if we asked Saban for his candid opinion of Napier in 2021, he would have told us to avoid hiring him.

Enough is enough!

I by no means am some football guru, but what I have learned over my lifetime is continuing to go down the same path and getting the same results is what many would call insanity. We have tried four different coaches with one having SEC head coaching experience since Urban Myer. It's time to pull a T A&M with the Jimbo Fisher move, offer the targeted coach a contract that he and his family would have to be insane to refuse. Target the top five coaches in the game, Kirby Smart excluded and show our fans, and the whole college football world we are tired of mediocrity. No more rebuilding, no more start up coaches, and no more average defensive coordinators. Enough is enough.

Why an ole miss playoff run shouldn’t matter

Ole Miss has 30 seniors and 8 draft eligible players in their two deep. Only 4 underclassman. Why does this matter? Well the obvious, ole miss is a “window” program. They build up 3-4 years for a run at a playoff spot/championship. So Ole Miss with or without Lane will take a big step back next year.

But the more important angle imo, those 30 seniors and multiple upperclassmen going to the NFL do not give 1 single crap where Lane is coaching next year. The only ones it would effect are the few underclassman in their two deep and if the love is strong enough, Lane can bring them over.

Point being, I think we could easily announce Lane before the playoffs. Players going to the NFL, Lane going to dream job. Let’s go win a championship before we all depart. Similar situation to Billy coaching the sun belt championship, obviously a bigger scale. Considering how unique this circumstance is, I don’t think timing would prevent us or Lane from getting this done. And that’s about the only objection people have as to why Lane won’t come. In fact, I’d argue it’s a perfect send off tour.
